Varsity Tennis Defeated By Iroquois

The varsity girls tennis team visited Iroquois on Thursday night in a non-league match and lost 4-1.

1st singles player Hannah Yetter lost her match (6-1, 6-2) against a very strong opponent.  Hannah has really come a long way in regards to staying confident within a match no matter the situation.

2nd singles player Caleigh Trzcinski lost her match but battled hard against a difficult player.  Caleigh made a number of excellent shots despite the loss.

In 3rd singles action Maria Rumfola played a terrific match and came away with a straight set victory (6-4,6-3.)  Maria was great from the baseline as she was ripping winners from both the forehand and backhand side during the teams only Varsity win on the night.

In 1st doubles action Haylee Cerrone and Maddie Safford were in an intense match but eventually fell 7-5, 6-2.  Cerrone made a number of great passing shots in the alley’s and Safford was aggressive at the net throughout the match.

In second doubles Rachel O’Neal and Anna Franklin lost 6-1, 6-1.  Even though the score didn’t favor them the girls made some nice gains on the court with their awareness and aggressiveness at the net.

Lastly, Grace Terhune and Shelby Buckley paired up in exhibition action and won their set 6-3.  Both girls have really improved tremendously as we’ve progressed through the season.

The girls will return to the court on Monday when they travel to Cheektowaga.
