S-GI Student to Speak with First Lady Michelle Obama - April 2010

Because of the hard work and participation in the 2010 StudentCam Competition, C-SPAN has invited one of our students, Jillian Cobo, to take part in a LIVE C-SPAN produced program with First Lady Michelle Obama. The program, which will be take place at the White House, will air LIVE on C-SPAN Wednesday, April 7 from 11:15am – 12:00pm ET. 

 

The 45 minute program to discuss the issue of childhood obesity, an issue she has spoken out about during her time as First Lady.

Project - January 2010
Each year, C-Span challenges middle and high school students to film documentaries exploring a topic of national interest. This year, Springville-Griffith Institute CSD students entered 8 films in the competition.

Stratosphere Balloon Project - November 2009

One of the primary goals of educators is to encourage, support and facilitate their students’ academic and personal achievement.  Recently eighth grade students at Springville-Griffith Institute Middle School (SGI) in Springville, NY were able to extend their knowledge and expectations with a project that reached the stratosphere – literally.

High School's New Face Conferece

How do you connect to a 21st century student? Engage them by utilizing the tools available.  This presentation will show a variety of student produced projects from elementary through high school. From digital storybooks and animated cartoons to short documentaries the students of Springville-Griffith are connecting with the world.

Summer Institute for Human Rights & Genocide Studies

It is hard to believe what has happened in the last year through the Summer Institute. We are looking forward to many amazing speakers as well as the exciting field trips we have lined up.

2009 Summer Institute for Human Rights and Genocide Studies
July 27th - August 7th, 9:00am - 3:00pm


Springville Students for Human Rights

A group of middle and high school students and teachers from Springville-Griffith Institute Central School District (Springville, New York) are working to end the genocide in Darfur. They have formed a committee to raise awareness and held fundraisers to assist the over two million people living in refugee camps.

C-SPANs StudentCam Competition

The students in Mr. Karb’s Grade Eight Social Studies and Mr. Rokitka's AP History classes had the opportunity to take part in a competition provided by C-SPAN. The students whom elected to participate created a 5-8 minute documentary focused on the following issue:  What is the most urgent issue the US President should address after taking office, and why? Students used guidelines provided to produce a film that was submitted to C-SPAN. Video will be judged with over $50,000 in prizes to be awarded to the best submissions. WATCH THE VIDEOS
