Welcome to the Springville-Griffith Institute High School website. I am tremendously excited to begin my second year as the Principal of this outstanding High School.  Our collective goal here at the high school is to provide all students with a quality education and empower each student to maximize their potential.  As a professional learning community the members of our high school faculty seek and values the insight of all stakeholders. Together in a partnership of learning we can help all students meet the high expectations we have for them and fulfill the dreams they have for themselves.

The 21st century will present our young people with unparalled possibilities and challenges. I firmly believe it is our moral obligation as educators, parents and citizens to do whatever it takes to prepare students with the skills and knowledge necessary to meet these challenges head on.  We will accomplish this goal through the design of rigorous and relevant curriculum, units and lessons intended to engage students in active, constructive learning. Our teachers will continue to employ effective instructional strategies and create meaningful assessments for measuring student learning.

As High School Principal, I will continue to encourage students to enroll in challenging courses, participate in school sponsored activities, and make positive contributions to their community.  I am a true believer in all students’ ability to learn at high levels. Our job as a learning community is to develop systems to ensure student learning as well as create a system of intervention for those students who are not learning.

We seek the help of parents and families. When schoolwork involves parents, students are more deeply invested, and hence learn more. Parents and other caregivers are a child's first teachers and can instill values that encourage hard work. Schools should build strong alliances with parents and welcome their active participation in the classroom. As principal, I will ensure that our school informs parents of our educational goals, the importance of high expectations for each child, and ways of assisting with homework and classroom lessons. We will look for avenues to connect the entire community with our school.

All of the aforementioned measures are key elements of an effective high school. The members of this High School staff will work with all stakeholders to ensure that these elements become the fundamental standards and practices at Springville-Griffith Institute High School. This community was founded on the principle of a strong work ethic. I look forward to modeling this work ethic in my position as High School Principal.

Sincerely,

Vincent T. Vanderlip
