Prepare yourself for an exciting journey into a fairytale as Springville-Griffith Insititute Middle School presents this year’s musical performance of Into the Woods Jr. on December 2-3.
The Baker (Max Brown) and his Wife (Alexis Beckwith) will set out on a quest to break the curse laid upon them by the Witch next door (Kitty Merwin). As they search for the objects required by the Witch, they discover that they must convince beloved fairytale characters such as Cinderella (Hannah Fanton), Jack (Paul Schneider), Little Red Riding Hood (Madeline Brecker) and Rapunzel (Olivia Porterfield) to part with their prized possessions. Along the way, the Princes (Caleb Johnson and Jackson Keyser) lament their agony while the Mysterious Man (William Lumb) continues to share his cryptic advice. The entire adventure is woven together by the vibrant storytelling of the Narrator (Anatoly Wochensky).
The original Broadway production of Into the Woods was written and directed by James Lapine with music by Stephen Sondheim. This clever adaptation of Into the Woods Jr. includes 40 Springville-GI Middle School students in the roles of actors, crew and technicians with a number of high school students joining them backstage as mentors. The production staff is proud of all the work the students have put into this production since September.
