Boys Swimming and Diving Team attended the Class C Championships

On February 3rd and 4th the Boys Swimming and Diving Team attended the Class C Championships.  Springville was able to finish 6th out of 14 competing schools, with only 6 athletes having qualified and being able to attend the meet.  Participating in the weekends competition were Seniors Nolan West and Kurt Uschold, Junior Dominic Hartenstein, Sophomore Jon Boberg, Freshman Wyatt Fuller, and 8th Grader Eric Schweickert.  Unfortunately Elliot Emley and Zach Hughey were unable to compete as both had fallen ill leading up to the meet and hadn’t recovered.

Friday night saw boys 1m diving take place at Maryvale High School.  In his first 11 dive competition, Wyatt Fuller was able to place 4th in Class C with a score of 316.65.  Wyatt looks to better his score next week at the Section 6 Championships.

Saturday was the day for the swimming events, hosted at Newfane High School.  The first event for the team was the 200 Medley Relay.  The relay team comprised of Dominic Hartenstein, Jon Boberg, Kurt Uschold, and Nolan West were able to take almost a second off their previous best time, and finish in 5th place overall.  The tone set in that opening relay of going fast, and competing with the best swimmers carried over for everyone throughout the meet.

Along with the Medley Relay, Nolan was also able to take 2nd places in both the 50 and 100 Freestyle, while also adding to the 4th place finishing 200 Freestyle.  Nolan is consistently knocking on the door of a state qualifying time, and is hoping to achieve it at Sectionals.

Kurt, along with the Medley Relay and Freestyle Relay, was able to add top 4 finishes as he took 4th place in the 200 freestyle with a Sectional Qualifying time, and also a 3rd place finish in the 500 free.  Kurt has now dropped 24 seconds in the past two competitions for his 500 Freestyle to earn him a spot at Sectionals for the event and better seeding.

Jon Boberg not only contributed to the two relays, but also came in 6th place in the 200 IM while dropping 4 seconds off his previous best time.  Jon also was able to finish 12th in the 100 Breaststroke.

Dominic Hartenstein was also able to find individual success outside of the two relays as well.  Dominic was able to place 8th in the 100 Backstroke after initially being seeded in 10th place. Dominic also swam in the 50 yard freestyle as well.

Eric Schweickert only had one event to swim but made sure to do give it everything he had.  In the 100 Backstroke, Eric was able to place 16th and achieve a personal best time in the event as well.
