The Buffalo Zoo is offering the 2nd year of our Life Sciences Career Lab program. This program is free and runs every Saturday for 8 weeks in January and February for teens ages 14-18. Applications for the program are being accepted until December 4th. Application is attached.
This program provides in-depth hands-on experiences in 6 different life science careers, talks with professionals from the field, group project work, mentorship, and the opportunity to showcase final projects to friends, family, and the zoo community at a zoo-wide event. Additionally, students that successfully complete the program are awarded a $250 VISA gift card.
We only accept 15 students into this program every year and we have a detailed application process. This small group size ensures that all participants have ample opportunity for individual attention, mentorship, and one-on-one guidance. To apply, students will need to complete and send the attached application, along with a recommendation letter from a science teacher or guidance counselor. Our target populations for this program are students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds and/or from minority populations that are under-represented in life science careers.
In order to be eligible for the program, students must be between the ages of 14 and 18 by January 6th 2018, live in Erie County, show a demonstrated interest in science, and be able to commit every Saturday in January and February to the program from 9a.m. until 1p.m.
