Dear Families,

Our SGI students and staff will shift to remote learning beginning Monday, November 30th. SMS teachers and I have worked to develop a schedule that is a combination of both synchronous and asynchronous learning. This means children will receive direct instruction for a portion of their day accompanied with independent instructional activities. We have developed a schedule where ALL middle school students would run through their “A” day schedule on Monday/Tuesday followed by their “B” day schedule on Thursday/Friday. This means the purple and gold cohorts would be combined and all SMS students would follow this schedule four days a week. We will continue with our current schedule on Wednesday where teachers are available to support students and provide additional one on one help.

Our building schedule for our students is included in this letter and is broken down by grade level. Also attached are important reminders for virtual learning. Students are expected and required to attend classes during their assigned periods throughout the day and attendance will be taken each period, beginning with Homeroom. Students should return to their homeroom teachers during 12th period M/T/TH/F instead of Band, Chorus or Orchestra. Teachers will continue to utilize 12th period, as they do in our in-person model, as a check in time for students and provide support. Teachers will also be available to students for support during their asynchronous work time. Completion of assignments is required during remote learning and student work will be graded. Teachers will continue to communicate with their students through the Google Classroom platform and will prepare them for this shift to remote prior to November 30th.

Remember that we want everyone to be in school and hope that this is a temporary shift to remote. I’m looking forward to having our students back in full force but in the meantime, stay safe and take care of your families.
