JV and Varsity Volleyball Battle Iroquois

Both the JV and varsity volleyball teams took on Iroquois this weekend.

The SGI varsity volleyball team is now 2 – 0 after beating Iroquois in 4 sets.  The girls ran a new rotation in which Jillian Roggie debuted as Libero.  Jill led her team to a 25-21 victory in set one.  The Griffs offense got stronger and stronger as the match went on.  Serving errors cost them the game in the second set, but the team came back and showed no mercy winning games 3 and 4.

Marinna Heichberger set for 26 assists on the night, and served  7 straight points in set 3. Ella Wittman was in fire at the net with 6 kills, Melanie Barry controlled the middle with 4 kills and 3 blocks.  Sara Ehlers ran up the score with strong serves as Rachel Stressinger not only played  impressive defensive in the back row, but put down 9 kills!  Ivette Lewandowski contributed to the Griffs offensive dominance with 7 kills.

The JV Volleyball team traveled to Iroquois to face a tough team.  The first match was lead by outstanding serving by Sydney Fuller and McKenzie Steff, leading the Griff’s to a 25-12 win.  Kailea Sullivan and McKenzie Owens played fantastic defense throughout the night,  but the Lady Griffs dropped the second and third matches 22-25 and 20-25.  Each game was a hard fought battle.

Both teams play East Aurora in the SGI home opener on Wednesday, September 11.
