Russell and Sacilowski Break School Records

WNY Section 5 and Section 6 track teams squared off against each other this past weekend at a meet held at Houghton College. During the highly anticipated event, SGI proved to be a team full of competitive athletes willing to push themselves on the field.

Freshman Sonya Krezmien started the day out for the Griffins running her season best in the 3000 of 11:03.33 reducing her time by 9 seconds. Her second run was just as impressive clocking a 5:25 in the 1500-meter race.

Sophomore Payton Rowe ran a clean hurdle race finishing with a 10.05 in the 55 hurdles which is just off her season best time of 9.99.

Chloe Chamberlain ran a personal best of 7.69 in the 55 dash and improved her sectional standings.

In the weight throw, Marykate Beyer improved her own record with a 29’8.25″ throw.

Allison Lavanture continued to outdo herself with a 14’9″ in the long jump, just missing sectional qualifying standards by inches.

In the 1000 Lizzy Miranda ran a personal best 3:23.23 in the first heat which was a 6 second improvement followed by Elle Russell in the second heat who broke SGI’s school record and qualifying for Sectionals with a 3:18.11.

Corrin Sacilowski continued the momentum taking 3rd place overall and breaking the school record in the 1500-meter race-walk by 16 seconds with a time of 7:49.6. Corrin is now SGI’s indoor and outdoor record holder for this event.

Congratulations to all of the athletes and the SGI coaching staff.
