School Bus Safety Tip of the Month

As the weather changes please talk to your children about safety around the school bus. Remind them to pay close attention to the bus driver’s directions, especially if they are crossing the road. The diagram below depicts the area known as the “danger zone”. It is the area around the bus where students are most vulnerable because the bus driver may not be able to see them. Remind them that if they are close enough to touch the bus they are in the “danger zone” and need to move away. During the next month we will be conducting school bus safety drills which include crossing procedures, bus behavior and practice evacuation drills among other things. Ask your children to tell you about the drills and what they learned. Let them show you. It will help them remember what they have learned. Thanks for working with us to keep your children safe.
