Each year, Erie County Music Educators Conference holds a number of All County Music Festivals that showcase the talent of student musicians in our county. On March 17 and 18, 2017 Springville-Griffith Institute was honored to be the host district for the Junior High South Festival.
Students from Southern Erie County schools are chosen to participate in band, orchestra or choral ensembles based on a rigorous audition process. Teachers and students spend months preparing for the festival which culminates in a weekend of rehearsals and performances. The students rehearse with their fellow musicians Friday evening and Saturday morning and give performances on Saturday afternoon. SGI High School’s Lyle G. Palmer Auditorium was filled to capacity for two impressive concerts.
On March 18, 2017, the 1:30 concert featured The SSA Choir, directed by Mr. Keith Ersing, and the Band, conducted by Mr. Matthew Osika. The 4:00 performance included The SATB Choir under the direction of Mr. Lou Shafer, and the Orchestra, conducted by Mr. Randy Czosnyka. Each concert was a wonderful display of the talented young musicians of Erie County.
SGI’s Administrators, Board Members and Music Faculty were proud to host this festival that celebrates the music, student musicians and educators of Erie County. With the help of the SGI grounds crews, custodial staff and countless volunteers, the ECMEA Junior High South All County Festival was a great success!
