Middle School Family Update
I apologize in the delay in not getting the February newsletter out last week. It was scheduled to go out Friday but with our two snow days, I wanted to make sure information about any rescheduled events was included.
I’m pleased to announce that our new French Teacher started on 3/2/20. I welcome Kaitlyn Hatch to the Springville Middle School Family!
There are two All-Chorus concerts in the month of March:
- All-Chorus Concert Grades 4-6; March 19 @ 6:30 pm in the High School Auditorium.
- All-Chorus Concert Grades 7-12; March 26 @ 7:00 pm in the High School Auditorium.
Mrs. Cummings will be holding two dress rehearsals at the High School.
On Wednesday, March 18th, our 6th grade chorus students will rehearse at the High School at 7:30 am. Students are able to get off of their regular bus at the high school. If you are dropping off your child on 3/18, please take them to the high school. Student drop off is at the front of the building. Students will be bussed back to SMS at approximately 10:45 am.
Our 7th and 8th grade chorus students are rehearsing on Wednesday, March 25th after school at the High School from 2:30-4:00 pm. Students are able to ride their bus from the Middle School to the High School. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Cummings at email@example.com or call the Middle School main office at 592-3203.
It’s hard to believe that we are approaching the end of 25 weeks of school! Grades will close for our next progress report on 3/6/20. Progress reports will be published to the portal on 3/12/20. If you do not have access to the PowerSchool portal and would like information about that, please contact our Technology Office at 592-3213. If you are unable to access grades electronically and would like a paper copy of the progress report mailed to your home, please contact Student Services at 592-3276.
Our ELA state assessments will begin the last week in March and SGI is participating in computer-based testing again this year. Our dates for ELA are Thursday 3/26 and Friday 3/27 for grades 6-8. (Math on 4/23 & 4/24) Each grade has a scheduled 2-hour testing window that will be staggered beginning at 8:00 am and concluding at 11:00 am. Students do have unlimited time and will be able to move to the library if they need to continue to work on the assessment. Students will be taking their assessment with their homeroom teacher. I encourage our students to show what they know and participate in our state assessments. With that being said, any students who refuse the assessment will stay in their homeroom and are able to read a book of their choice. Please contact me with any questions.
