Students show a giving spirit

The students at Springville-Griffith Institute CSD have come together to show their generosity and help out those in the Springville community this holiday season. Events at Colden Elementary, Springville Middle School and Springville-Griffith Institute High School all raised food and money for those in need.

Colden Elementary held a “Stuff A Bus” food drive ! CES students and their families went all out to support this great effort, collecting an amazing 1,396 cans and boxes of food! CES Student Council members worked very hard to pack, sort and transport all the food which was donated to the Bread of Life Food Pantry which assists needy families in our area.

The Middle School Student Council hosted a canned food drive to benefit the Springville Food Pantry during the week of November 18. Students collected 450 items that were dropped off to the Food Pantry on the Monday before Thanksgiving.

The High School hosted the 1st Annual Turkey Bowl. This flag football tournament was held on November 22 to raise money and canned goods for distribution through Love Inc. The juniors were victorious over the sophomores in the first game and then went on to beat the combined senior/freshman team to win the Turkey Bowl trophy! Many thanks to Mr. Bialasik and Mr. DeMartino for being referees, Mr. Holler for announcing, Mrs. Komenda for working the front table and Miss Orsini for organizing the event. A very special thank you also goes to Main Street Pizza for donating pizza for the event.
