The Varsity Girls basketball team had a eventful holiday break. The girls took their first league win on the year when they played host to the Lackawanna Steelers. The girls won that game 58-26 behind the hot shooting of Sydney Rosati and Ivette Lewandowski as they combined for 30 points. The girls were scheduled to play host to Oracle Charter School in the opening round of the Emerling Tourney but the opposing team ended up forfeiting which put the Lady Griff’s in the title game against the Pioneer Panthers. Despite a great defensive effort the girls struggled mightily through the night on offense as they dropped a hard fought game by a score of 29-27. All tournament honors were handed out to Lexi Sopko and Julia Krzemien. Also, Carrie Dickinson chipped in 9 points in the losing effort. The girls have a very busy week ahead as they travel to Tonawanda tonight and look to stay undefeated in league play. The girls are now 2-3 overall and 1-0 in league play.
