The Varsity girls tennis team continued their winning ways by defeating the Eden Raiders by a score of 4-1. In first singles action Lily Vanuga won 6-1, 6-2. Lily’s ability to finish her ground strokes and hit timely drop shots led to the lopsided victory. In second singles, Haylee Cerrone won 6-1, 6-1. Cerrone played much better from the baseline and took control of the match early on. In third singles action Maria Rumfola won 6-2, 6-1. Maria’s ability to hit the cross court shot and take advantage of her opponents’ second serve proved to be too much. In first doubles action Grace Terhune and Elle Schosek won 6-1, 6-4. The story of the day in this match was the improved net play of both players. The girls finished many points from the net and led to the big win. In second doubles action Ava Dziak and Layla Gartler fell 4-6, 4-6. The girls did a lot of good things on the court but made a few too many mistakes in the loss.In 1st exhibition action Marissa Martens and Julie Bartoszek won 6-1. The girls showed improved play all over the court for the big win. Emmie Weiss lost in singles action 2-6, but displayed an improved level of play from the baseline. With the win the girls remained in second place and return to action next week. Great job girls!
