Varsity Tennis

The varsity girls tennis team dropped a competitive match with the Alden Bulldogs last night by a score of 5-0. The match pinned the best teams in Division 4 for their first meeting of the season.

In first singles action Lily Vanuga dropped her match in straight sets 2-6, 5-7. The second set showed just how good Lily can play against one of the best in the league. Lily was excellent setting up her opponent and finishing some crucial shots. Despite the loss Lily put forth a great effort. In second singles action Haylee Cerrone lost in straight sets 0-6, 0-6. Haylee ran up against a tough opponent and just couldn’t find her rhythm. Despite the result Haylee played a lot of long points and competed at a high level. In third singles action Maria Rumfola lost 1-6, 3-6. Maria played hard, tough and had many points that lasted more than ten shots on both ends. Unfortunately, she felt just short of pulling off the upset. Despite the loss, Rumfola has a lot to be proud of and can build off of that excellent performance. In first doubles action the duo of Grace Terhune and Ava Dziak lost 1-6, 0-6. The girls couldn’t seem to find their footing but showed off their high level of play during certain points of the match. Stringing along that consistency throughout two sets is the goal the next time these two take the court. In second doubles action Layla Gartler and Elle Schosek lost 3-6, 5-7. The girls had a lot of great moments, between the great net play of Gartler and excellent cross court shots of Schosek, the girls positioned themselves to play a third set. Despite their great efforts the girls couldn’t squeeze out the second set.

The girls are now 6-2 overall and will look to rebound next week as they play Tonawanda on Monday. Great effort ladies!
