Recently, our high school agriculture students shared some of their knowledge with Colden 4th graders! Avalyn and Miley shared the story of "Lucky Ducky," who is on the hunt for a four-leaf clover. Then the students were able to plant their own clovers in the hopes of finding their own lucky four-leaf clover. They added dirt, seeds and water to cups before placing them on the windowsill to grow. Before the older student left, they answered questions about agriculture and FFA.

SGI Celebrated St. Patrick's Day last week! The first graders in Mrs. Maybach and Mrs. Anderson’s classes at Colden Elementary utilized the healthy choices cart to make “Leprechaun Smoothies” made with frozen fruit, spinach, orange juice, bananas, and yogurt. They also wrote about their leprechauns, played games and more! The naughty leprechaun was searching for his gold in Mrs. Ballantyne's class at SES! The kids tried to trap him with their rainbow traps, but with NO success! The leprechaun sprayed silly string all over the classroom. He even made the toilet water green. The class followed the gold sprinkles and M&M trail out the window, and he left each of them a cookie. Maybe they'll catch him next year! The kindergartners also took part in Lucky Charms graphing, making leprechauns, and Fruit Loop rainbows!

Recently, Colden Elementary students celebrated STEAM Night with a full rainbow of science, technology, engineering, art and math activities! This year's STEAM Night had a St. Patrick's Day theme and included activities like building a leprechaun trap, creating a leprechaun terrarium, launching rainbow catapults, operating robots and drones, experimenting with balloons and a special life-sized game of Operation! Thank you to all of the volunteers who made the event possible, including some high school students and 8th graders in Science Olympiad!

Colden Elementary wrapped up PARP (Pick a Reading Partner) with the traditional closing ceremony! The whole school wore red T-shirts with this year's chosen design, created by fourth grader Kendall Lawton. Reader's Theater winners were Mrs. Kaznowski's and Mrs. Fisher/Prichard's classes. A special thank you to the Kiwanis Club of Springville for their donation, which funded the books given to students during the week!

Colden Elementary students read for 15 minutes a day in order to earn tickets for prizes during PARP (Pick a Reading Partner), but they also took time to "Drop Everything and Read!" Students could be seen in the hallways and even in specials, stopping to read a good book!

To spread the magic of reading, Colden Elementary had a special visitor! Mrs. Claus traveled from the North Pole to distribute books and bookmarks to students during the first week of PARP (Pick a Reading Partner). She was assisted by Colden "elves" Paxton Worthington and Liviana Beuler as they visited each classroom. Mrs. Claus and Santa can't wait to hear all about the stories our students read throughout the year when they visit again in December!

Colden Elementary premiered its first annual Original Music Guest Artist Visit, offering a unique experience for student musicians who performed original songs alongside the artists who wrote them. The first guest artist was NYC-based singer-songwriter Rocco Dellaneve AKA Rocco of the Snow, and student performances were centered on his album "Prime Mover." Fourth- and fifth-grade band students, as well as returning middle school students, performed multiple tracks with the band at the direction of Mr. DiGiacomo. Thank you to the Springville Griffith Education Community Foundation for the grant support that made this opportunity possible and helped bring professional-level music education experiences to our students!
