The varsity girls tennis team dropped a hard fought match to East Aurora on Friday afternoon by a score of 5-0. In first singles action Evelyn Berry played the match of the day by going shot for shot with East Aurora’s very best but falling 4-6, 3-6. Evelyn jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first set by playing beautiful tennis. Despite the result the progress from the first match can’t be ignored (lost 0-6, 1-6) as Evelyn continues to show she belongs at the varsity level as a 7th grader. In second singles action Natalie Rumfola played a terrific match against an excellent opponent but lost 0-6, 3-6. Natalie continues to demonstrate an excellent and consistent ground stroke game. Natalie played many long points in a match that could have gone either way. In third singles action Sharon Thomas lost 0-6, 2-6, Sharon played an excellent second set and showed how competitive she can be against top flight competition. In first doubles action Peyton Wells and Taylor Wells lost 2-6, 2-6. The duo displayed a lot of progress within the match as they played many great points and games to deuce. Despite the set scores this was a match that could have gone either way. In second doubles action Kailyn Sprague and Jackie Thompson lost 1-6, 1-6. Both girls had positive moments but couldn’t quite overcome their opponents. This was only the second time both girls have played together. The girls are now 5-2 overall and sit in second place in ECIC4. They travel to West Seneca East in hopes of getting back to their winning ways.
