The girls tennis team made it a season sweep of Depew last night by winning 3-2. Scoring the first point for the Griff’s was third singles player Sharon Thomas. Sharon once again displayed great quickness and overall play as she won 6-0, 6-0. Securing the second point for the team was second singles player Natalie Rumfola. Natalie did an awesome job of staying patient and picking her spots on when to be aggressive by winning her match 6-3, 6-4. In first singles action Evelyn Berry won the match clinching point by defeating her opponent 6-2, 7-6. Evelyn had to battle from behind in the second set but once again found her dominant ways by playing smart tennis and taking advantage of opportunities when they presented themselves.
In first doubles action Taylor Wells and Peyton Wells lost 0-6, 6-7. It was a tale of two very different sets as the girls played much better in the second set but couldn’t quite take the match to the third set. Still, Taylor continued her fine play at the net and Peyton was great from the baseline. In second doubles action Alysha Evans and Jackie Thompson lost 5-7, 2-6. It was a match that could’ve went either way but Depew was just a little too much on this day. It was great to see Alysha come up with some great hustle plays and Jackie being active all over the court.
In exhibition action Gianna Nevins won her match 6-0. Gianna showed improved overall play in her game and was very impressive in the win. In the last singles exhibition match Chloe Dinse Johnson won 6-2. It was a solid win for Chloe as she continues to show excellent improvement!!
The girls will host Alden tomorrow in a doubleheader for their last match of the season.
