boys tennis

The boys tennis team finally took the court last night against league foe Alden and came away with a huge 3-2 victory. Earning the first varsity point for the Griff’s was the tandem of Garrison Heichberger and Matt Baumgartner as they won 6-4, 6-0. The boys played a solid first set but really found their footing in the second set to get the win.

Securing the second varsity point was the second doubles team Nolan Bobseine and Parker Boyles. They won their match 6-2, 6-0. Both players played exceptionally well with their groundstrokes and moved to the ball with great hustle.

Getting the decisive third varsity point was the third doubles team of Liam Bobseine and Joel Korf. That team won a thrilling 7-5, 6-4 match which saw a lot of ups and downs but eventually the boys pulled out the big win.

In first singles action, Garrett Karb dropped his match but played with a lot of poise and never gave up on a point (1-6, 0-6).

In second singles action, Bryce Cook dropped a highly competitive match in two sets (2-6, 3-6). Bryce had some excellent shots on the day and has a lot to look forward to when we see Alden in a few weeks.

In exhibition action, Avery Noeson and Forrest Prouty came away with a nice 6-2 win. Both guys played well and continued to improve as the match went on.

In other exhibition action, Ben Watson and Brendon Safford dropped their set 3-6. Despite the result both players understand they will play much better next time out.

Lastly, the duo of Kaiden Bialasik and Cullen McAndrew competed to a 2-5 one-set loss. It was their first-ever match and the future is bright as they play more.

The team is now 1-0 overall and will look to keep their winning ways going when they travel to East Aurora on Thursday afternoon.
