Nick Gold struck out 12 batters, but Springville fell to last year's state championship team, Depew Wildcats, 4-3 in extra innings.
Gold allowed five hits and three runs over six innings while walking none. Springville was right in it until Depew grounded out in the 8th inning to score a run. Aiden Brown went 1 for 4 at the plate as the infielder led the team with one run batted in. Grant Michalski, Hunter Runser, Brodie Glass, Landon Roy, Drew Reynolds, Aiden Brown, and Nick Gold each collected one hit for the Griffs. Michalski stole two bases. Springville ran wild on the base paths, accumulating five stolen bases for the game. Travis Keem went into pinch run after Landon Roy hit a triple, this was the first run of the game for the Griffs to build their momentum, trying to defeat the state champs.
