Nationwide, schools are experiencing a shortage of the half-pint paper containers used for milk. SGI Culinary is adapting to this unique challenge.
Starting as early as next week, milk and chocolate milk will be offered in 4oz or 8oz cups to students at all grade levels alongside juice and water options.
The USDA is aware of this supply chain challenge and encourages schools to meet the milk requirement to the greatest extent possible. Upstate Niagara Cooperative Inc., the company that supplies SGI’s milk, informed us of the shortage of cartons and has offered us other options while they seek solutions on their end.
We see the nutritional value in milk for our students and we support dairy farmers, so we have made it a priority to continue to purchase and offer milk in our schools. We will continue to monitor the situation. Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
