Good Afternoon SGI Families,
As you may have heard, the company that hosts our student management system, PowerSchool, experienced a security breach late last week. We received word that SGI, along with thousands of other school systems nationwide may have had data compromised.
The breach involved unauthorized access to staff names and email addresses, as well as student and family contact information such as names, addresses, and phone numbers. We want to clarify that Springville-Griffith Institute CSD does not store social security numbers or financial information in PowerSchool, and our district’s PowerSchool passwords were not compromised. Right now, we are still sorting out the details of what, if any, data from our district may have been involved. While this situation is concerning, we want to assure you that our district takes the protection of student and staff data very seriously.
PowerSchool has informed us that the individuals responsible for the breach have been identified and that the compromised data has been securely destroyed. Please note that this incident occurred solely on PowerSchool’s end and has not affected any other systems within our district.
Please know that we are closely monitoring the situation. As more information for our specific district is made available, we will be sharing that with staff and families. In the meantime, if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to JoAnn DePue, Director of Technology, Data and Assessment via email at jdepue@springvillegi.org.
