Good Afternoon SGI Families,

What a day in terms of weather! The snow that was forecast to end at 6am today simply NEVER stopped. This morning’s road conditions and visibility were challenging across our entire district and stayed challenging for most of the day.  I want to commend our incredible transportation staff who kept our children safe both to and from school today.  They were calm and professional in really poor conditions. It was a full district effort as our buildings and grounds crew worked throughout the day to keep our lots and sidewalks treated.  I would also like to give a big thank you to the Highway Superintendents and their crews who worked throughout the early morning hours and through the day to make the roads as passable as they could.  Families, we appreciate your patience as we navigated today’s inclement weather.  Thank you!

I’m certainly not afraid to own a mistake when I make one, so let me just acknowledge what my nine-year-old said to me when he walked over from SES this afternoon, “Should have been a snow day, Dad!”  Yep, it probably should have been.

I know we are all bracing for the cold tonight into tomorrow, and the next big weather system on Sunday.  Please stay warm and safe.

With Gratitude,

James Bialasik

Superintendent of Schools
