Cindy Gow

During last week's meeting of the Springville-Griffith Institute Central School District Board of Education, Cynthia A. Gow was appointed Director of Special Education, effective July 1, 2022.

Mrs. Gow currently serves as the assistant principal at Springville middle and elementary schools and will succeed Katherine Townsend, who will be retiring at the end of this school year.

An employee of the district since 2009, Mrs. Gow served as a special education teacher at SGI for 10 years prior to entering administration in January 2020.

"I am honored to be starting as SGI’s new Director of Special Education on July 1st," Mrs. Gow said. "When I began my administrative pathway, I committed to growing in any way possible, and when a door opened I would walk through it. I am thankful to Superintendent (James) Bialasik for his confidence in me and I’m very excited that this opportunity allows me to remain in the district."

She added, "As a special education teacher at SGI for ten years, I know that our team of capable, devoted professionals is what makes the special education department at SGI so great. They work hard every day to make sure students with very different needs have the best possible academic outcomes. I am very excited to work with this staff and continue the excellent work that Kathy Townsend has done to grow the department."
