Mrs. Hamm’s and Mrs. Maybach’s classes came together at CES for a fun-filled First Grade Fiesta Activity Day! Students participated in engaging activities related to the ELA Pilot Program story, "With Lots of Love" by Jenny Torres Sánchez.
The students had a blast playing Fiesta Bingo, writing and drawing wishes, pretending to make tortillas with homemade playdough, and using materials to weave a flag. It was wonderful to see students make connections to the story, share their ideas, and build new friendships along the way.
Most importantly, it was great to see CES and SES First Graders come together, connect, and celebrate learning together!

Recently, Colden Elementary took a school-wide walk and made a difference in the lives of people living with Type 1 Diabetes.

Over the past several weeks, our school community has come together with generosity, enthusiasm, and compassion. Because of their hard work and support, CES was able to raise an incredible $1,600 for Breakthrough TID.

That number represents much more than dollars. It represents kindness and hope. It also represents a commitment to helping scientists, doctors, and researchers work toward better treatments and, one day, a cure for Type 1 Diabetes.

Recently, Colden students made their way to school on two wheels! Nearly 90 students signed up to participate in the first-ever Bike to School Day! The students and volunteers met at the Colden Fire Company and made their way to the school on their bikes! Mr. Szczerbacki led the pack of young cyclists, and the rear was brought up by the Sheriff's Mounted Unit. When they arrived at the school, cheered on by staff and parent volunteers and were able to grab a healthy snack before starting the day! A huge thank you to our Wellness Team, the Town of Colden, Mr. DePasquale, the Erie County Sheriff’s Office, and the Sheriff’s Mounted Unit for all of their support in helping make the event possible.

April showers bring May flowers, but April eggs bring May chicks! Mrs. Caldwell's kindergarten class has been incubating eggs and recently watched the chicks hatch! They shared the experience with the rest of Colden Elementary and made a chicken craft. They will each propose names for the chicks, which they will vote on later. #ExperientialLearning #RedefiningRural

Keeping Up with Colden

Recently, our high school agriculture students shared some of their knowledge with Colden 4th graders! Avalyn and Miley shared the story of "Lucky Ducky," who is on the hunt for a four-leaf clover. Then the students were able to plant their own clovers in the hopes of finding their own lucky four-leaf clover. They added dirt, seeds and water to cups before placing them on the windowsill to grow. Before the older student left, they answered questions about agriculture and FFA.

SGI Celebrated St. Patrick's Day last week! The first graders in Mrs. Maybach and Mrs. Anderson’s classes at Colden Elementary utilized the healthy choices cart to make “Leprechaun Smoothies” made with frozen fruit, spinach, orange juice, bananas, and yogurt. They also wrote about their leprechauns, played games and more! The naughty leprechaun was searching for his gold in Mrs. Ballantyne's class at SES! The kids tried to trap him with their rainbow traps, but with NO success! The leprechaun sprayed silly string all over the classroom. He even made the toilet water green. The class followed the gold sprinkles and M&M trail out the window, and he left each of them a cookie. Maybe they'll catch him next year! The kindergartners also took part in Lucky Charms graphing, making leprechauns, and Fruit Loop rainbows!
