With a lot of creativity and teamwork, our amazing first graders have officially completed the project. Embracing this year’s fair theme, "Stars, Stripes and Summer Nights," the students worked hard to design, decorate, and plant a beautiful bucket filled with vibrant red, white, and blue flowers. They also created a custom, patriotic sign to accompany their display.
Where to see it: Our students' beautiful creation will be proudly showcased, representing our school, during the Erie County Fair this August. Be sure to look out for it if you visit the fair!

Throughout the experience, students loved learning all about their special "Hattie”—discovering where she lives and how dairy farmers take wonderful care of her. One of the highlights was a fun bracelet-making activity, where each bead taught the students important facts about what cows need to eat to stay healthy and how the milking process works.

Recently, first-grade classrooms at Springville Elementary School transformed into chilly scientific laboratories. Students were treated to "Science Below Zero," an exciting in-house outreach program presented by the Buffalo Museum of Science. During the interactive 45-minute demonstrations, students explored the fascinating world of energy and phases of matter. They kicked off the presentation by learning about dry ice—the solid, ultra-cold (-109*F) form of carbon dioxide. The young scientists were amazed to learn about sublimation, the unique process in which dry ice bypasses the liquid phase entirely, turning directly from a solid to a gas when heated. The classrooms came alive with hands-on experiments, including beaker volcanoes, bubbling soapy smoke brews, and miniature rockets. The icy fun didn't stop there. Students also discovered the properties of liquid nitrogen, watching it boil instantly at room temperature, shrink balloons, and even make a tea kettle "sing." The first-grade classes and teachers extend a massive thank you to the Springville PTO for generously sponsoring this incredible, hands-on educational experience!

The students had a blast playing Fiesta Bingo, writing and drawing wishes, pretending to make tortillas with homemade playdough, and using materials to weave a flag. It was wonderful to see students make connections to the story, share their ideas, and build new friendships along the way.
Most importantly, it was great to see CES and SES First Graders come together, connect, and celebrate learning together!

The centerpiece of this project required students to design and construct a miniature float that signifies a key theme, an important life lesson, or a pivotal scene from their chosen story. These imaginative displays serve as a visual storytelling medium, allowing students to showcase their comprehension and artistic flair. The culmination of their hard work was showcased in a vibrant "Parade of Books" that highlighted the diverse literary interests and ingenuity of our young readers.

The 5th Grade Band earned 1st Place, the chorus received 1st Place, and our Orchestra brought home 2nd Place. This festival was a moment where students showcased their hard work, dedication, and musical growth throughout the year. Their performances impressed the judges with their beautiful singing, playing and expressive performances, demonstrating excellent musicianship and teamwork.
These achievements are a testament to the countless hours of practice, commitment, and enthusiasm displayed by our students. We are incredibly proud of all of our performers for representing our school with excellence, professionalism, and school spirit.
Congratulations to the 5th Grade Band, Chorus, and Orchestra on a fantastic festival season and an unforgettable accomplishment!

Families enjoyed a variety of engaging activities, including puzzles, board games, dice games, logic puzzles, learning a card trick with Mr. Gesing, and even an exciting escape room challenge. The event gave students and families the opportunity to experience math in a hands-on, enjoyable way while spending quality time together.
A huge thank you to the Springville Community Education Foundation for funding and supporting this event. Their generosity helped make this special evening possible for our students and families. Each student also went home with a large bag of math games and activities to continue practicing and having fun with math at home alongside their families.
Thank you as well to everyone who helped make the night such a success. We are already looking forward to making Math Family Fun Night an annual tradition and continuing to build a strong sense of community along the way.
