The last day of school brings out the waterworks at SES, but we don't mean tears! Teachers and staff use water squirters to douse the students as they leave the school in a fun school tradition! The weather was beautiful, and the students enjoyed getting wet and even spraying back at the adults!

Mrs. Duerr’s and Mrs. Hamm’s first-grade classrooms were selected by the Erie County Agricultural Society to participate in a special community project for this year's Erie County Fair!

With a lot of creativity and teamwork, our amazing first graders have officially completed the project. Embracing this year’s fair theme, "Stars, Stripes and Summer Nights," the students worked hard to design, decorate, and plant a beautiful bucket filled with vibrant red, white, and blue flowers. They also created a custom, patriotic sign to accompany their display.

Where to see it: Our students' beautiful creation will be proudly showcased, representing our school, during the Erie County Fair this August. Be sure to look out for it if you visit the fair!

The SES P.E. Department recently hosted the annual “Whole School Track Meet.”  The events opened with a fun run by teachers dressed in fun, inflatable costumes. The students counted down as the top 20 runners from each grade level, K-5, ran the track. It was a beautiful day of friendly competition and encouraging wellness.

Students in Mrs. Duerr’s and Mrs. Spielberger‘s classrooms at Springville Elementary recently participated in Cow for Now, an exciting dairy education program sponsored by the Erie County Fair! Presented by Farm 2 Table and Milk for Health, this program brought the world of dairy farming right into the classroom.
Throughout the experience, students loved learning all about their special "Hattie”—discovering where she lives and how dairy farmers take wonderful care of her. One of the highlights was a fun bracelet-making activity, where each bead taught the students important facts about what cows need to eat to stay healthy and how the milking process works.

Third graders learned all about the life cycle of a butterfly. Students watched them go from larvae to chrysalises and finally to butterflies. Pictured is Mrs. Pfeiffer's class.

Recently, first-grade classrooms at Springville Elementary School transformed into chilly scientific laboratories. Students were treated to "Science Below Zero," an exciting in-house outreach program presented by the Buffalo Museum of Science. During the interactive 45-minute demonstrations, students explored the fascinating world of energy and phases of matter. They kicked off the presentation by learning about dry ice—the solid, ultra-cold (-109*F) form of carbon dioxide. The young scientists were amazed to learn about sublimation, the unique process in which dry ice bypasses the liquid phase entirely, turning directly from a solid to a gas when heated. The classrooms came alive with hands-on experiments, including beaker volcanoes, bubbling soapy smoke brews, and miniature rockets. The icy fun didn't stop there. Students also discovered the properties of liquid nitrogen, watching it boil instantly at room temperature, shrink balloons, and even make a tea kettle "sing." The first-grade classes and teachers extend a massive thank you to the Springville PTO for generously sponsoring this incredible, hands-on educational experience!

Mrs. Hamm’s and Mrs. Maybach’s classes came together at CES for a fun-filled First Grade Fiesta Activity Day! Students participated in engaging activities related to the ELA Pilot Program story, "With Lots of Love" by Jenny Torres Sánchez.
The students had a blast playing Fiesta Bingo, writing and drawing wishes, pretending to make tortillas with homemade playdough, and using materials to weave a flag. It was wonderful to see students make connections to the story, share their ideas, and build new friendships along the way.
Most importantly, it was great to see CES and SES First Graders come together, connect, and celebrate learning together!

First graders in Mrs. Duerr’s and Mrs. Spielberger’s classrooms at Springville Elementary School recently learned the historical importance of Flag Day. The young learners celebrated with a vibrant mini-parade through the school hallways, proudly waving their own American flags. The memorable civic lesson concluded outdoors, where the students gathered for a group photo beneath the school's flag.

Recently, the fourth-grade classes of Ms. Hamister and Mr. Kohl brought literature to life through their creative Float Book Report projects. To celebrate their final major reading assignment of the year, students were given the freedom to select a book from any genre that sparked their interest.

The centerpiece of this project required students to design and construct a miniature float that signifies a key theme, an important life lesson, or a pivotal scene from their chosen story. These imaginative displays serve as a visual storytelling medium, allowing students to showcase their comprehension and artistic flair. The culmination of their hard work was showcased in a vibrant "Parade of Books" that highlighted the diverse literary interests and ingenuity of our young readers.

The 1st Annual Math Family Fun Night was held at the end of May! SES teachers, staff, and high school student volunteers came together with families for a fun-filled and interactive night focused on building math skills and community connections.

Families enjoyed a variety of engaging activities, including puzzles, board games, dice games, logic puzzles, learning a card trick with Mr. Gesing, and even an exciting escape room challenge. The event gave students and families the opportunity to experience math in a hands-on, enjoyable way while spending quality time together.

A huge thank you to the Springville Community Education Foundation for funding and supporting this event. Their generosity helped make this special evening possible for our students and families. Each student also went home with a large bag of math games and activities to continue practicing and having fun with math at home alongside their families.

Thank you as well to everyone who helped make the night such a success. We are already looking forward to making Math Family Fun Night an annual tradition and continuing to build a strong sense of community along the way.
