Thank you to everyone who supported the SES McTeacher Night! It was a blast celebrating with all of you while raising money for our school community. Seeing so many staff members, teachers, families, and students come together made the night incredibly special.

A sign of spring has hatched in Mrs. Russell's classroom! Once again, her students were able to learn about the early stages of a chicken's life firsthand. The students incubated the eggs and got to witness the fluffy little chicks emerge from their shells. They hatched 17 chicks!

Please join us in congratulating the SES 4th & 5th Grade Band, Chorus and Orchestra on a wonderful Spring Concert performance last week!
The annual Springville Elementary Student Showcase and Art Show was a huge success! Student artwork lined the halls and the library, student work was on display in classrooms, and music was brought to the lobby by former teacher Donna Benstead and student singers. We also welcomed our fourth-grade Golden Griffin Sellers, fifth-grade Maple syrup sales, capital project engineers, and food trucks at this wonderful family event!

SES 5th-grade students recently had the exciting opportunity to create their own metal sculptures in Art class. With guidance from High School Tech Teacher Mr. Timothy Baumgartner, students brought their original sketches to life using a plasma cutter — an experience that combined creativity with hands-on technical skills. Next, students will add color by spray painting their sculptures and enhance them with details and accents using paint markers. These unique creations will serve as lasting keepsakes of their hard work and creativity — a true life-long treasure.

Attention SES Families: The SES Student Showcase and Art Show will be held on Thursday, April 23 from 5:00-6:30 PM. Please join us for a fun night showcasing your student's accomplishments in the classroom and in specials classes! There will also be food trucks on-site. See you there!

TeamSmile, in partnership with Concordia Dental and the Buffalo Bills, offered free dental services to 128 SGI students! The annual event promotes the significance of proper oral health. Buffalo Bills Defensive Tackle DeWayne Carter and Billy Buffalo visited the kids in the afternoon to wish them well with their procedures!

After reading Marion Dane Bauer’s "In Like a Lion, Out Like a Lamb," students in Mrs. Duerr’s and Mrs. Spielberger’s first-grade classes at SES put their own spin on March weather.
Each student chose their favorite side—the roaring "Lion" storms or the gentle "Lamb" sunshine—and wrote about the reasons behind their choice. This project allowed our young writers to practice expressing opinions while exploring the changing seasons.

Students in Mrs. Duerr's and Mrs. Spielberger’s first-grade classes at Springville Elementary recently turned into young engineers. After studying the life cycle of chickens, the children faced a "farm-to-table" dilemma: how to safely transport an egg from a high hayloft to a ground-level nest.
The mission was to design a device that would allow a farmer to drop an egg without it breaking. Through trial, error, and plenty of creativity, these students explored the basics of physics and protection.

Last week, students had the opportunity to visit the Sugar Shack, where they learned about the process of making maple syrup. Mr. Chaddock and the fifth-grade students work hard each year to collect the sap from the grounds around SES and process the sap into golden maple syrup. The students once again made delicious maple candy, which was sold alongside the syrup in order to fund future activities and field trips.

The Fourth Grade Golden Griffin Sellers are running a bustling business at Springville Elementary! The student entrepreneurs are involved in every part of the business - from their name to the products they sell to marketing and finances. They can be found most Wednesdays selling fun pens and pencils, bookmarks, keychains, lanyards and even plants in the SES lobby. Proceeds from their business fund the Gallivan Grant, a scholarship for a 5th grader to follow their passions in honor of the late Colleen Gallivan, as well as an end-of-year celebration for the fourth graders.

Five students from SES earned a special experiential learning field trip to Julie’s Pizzeria! Each student made their very own pizza, chose their toppings, cooked their pizza, and then ate it! It was a fun way to connect with the community and learn how a kitchen runs! Thank you to Julie’s for collaborating with SGI to provide this opportunity!

As part of PARP (Pick A Reading Partner), SES welcomed Nickel City Reptiles and Exotics to the school. From lizards with no legs to adorable lemurs, students had a blast learning about exotic animals from all around the world. This engaging and interactive experience sparked curiosity, taught science, and bridged the gap between classroom science and the natural world.
Last week, SES celebrated reading all week with PARP (Pick A Reading Partner)! We welcomed local author Eric Williams as part of the week's activities. Mr. Williams spent the day telling stories and getting the students excited about writing their own stories. He is a positive role model in our community and is well known by many students through his work at the Club. Some lucky students even had the opportunity to have lunch with Mr. Williams. Thank you, Mr. Williams, for showing the students at SES that stories are not just words on a page but can be created by people just like them!
SGI Celebrated St. Patrick's Day last week! The first graders in Mrs. Maybach and Mrs. Anderson’s classes at Colden Elementary utilized the healthy choices cart to make “Leprechaun Smoothies” made with frozen fruit, spinach, orange juice, bananas, and yogurt. They also wrote about their leprechauns, played games and more! The naughty leprechaun was searching for his gold in Mrs. Ballantyne's class at SES! The kids tried to trap him with their rainbow traps, but with NO success! The leprechaun sprayed silly string all over the classroom. He even made the toilet water green. The class followed the gold sprinkles and M&M trail out the window, and he left each of them a cookie. Maybe they'll catch him next year! The kindergartners also took part in Lucky Charms graphing, making leprechauns, and Fruit Loop rainbows!

The SES Student Council will hold their annual Food Drive to benefit the Springville Food Pantry starting on Monday, March 23 until Friday, March 27. The classes from each grade who bring in the most items will be rewarded with an ice cream or pizza party.
