Springville is back at it again! Two teams from the Springville FFA chapter are taking a trip to Indianapolis for the National FFA Convention. The Milk Quality team competed against 26 other teams at states, while Agronomy competed against 12 other teams at the state fair. Both teams received first place, making them eligible to compete at nationals. Being able to send teams to Nationals is a privilege that Springville has been able to do consistently over the years. Thank you to Ms. Nickerson for spending countless hours helping these students feel confident and prepared for the big competition. Be sure to wish these students luck before they leave!

On Friday, Springville High School hosted Anna North from North Farms for the first "Meet Your Farmer" event. SGi Culinary served the delicious North Farm's beef stroganoff, and Anna was on hand during lunches, demonstrating another use for beef tallow - as a moisturizer. This event was made possible by the SCALES Grant, which allows SGI Culinary to partner with local farms for the ingredients. We look forward to more events like this one!

On Friday afternoon, members of the girls' tennis team took part in the ECIC Tournament at Miller Tennis Center.
First up was the doubles team of Taylor Wells and Peyton Wells. They took on a team from Clarence and lost 0-6,0-6. Despite the result, the girls had a phenomenal year as the first doubles team, and they were selected to the D$ All-Star team!
Next, Natalie Rumfola took on Hamburg and lost in straight sets 3-6, 2-6. Natalie battled throughout the contest, showing why she was such a consistent force for her team. Despite the loss, Natalie was undefeated in D4 play and holds non-league wins over Mt. Mercy, Williamsville South and Lake Shore.
Lastly, Evelyn Berry was finally able to demonstrate to all of ECIC why she will be a force from now until the time she graduates. Evelyn's first match on the day was against Orchard Park, and she won 6-0, 6-0. Next up, Evelyn faced off against Amherst's first singles player, with a trip to day 2 of the tournament on the line. Evelyn won a two-and-a-half-hour thriller by a score of 7-6, 6-7, 6-3. It was the match of the day as both players competed at a high level. Evelyn's mental toughness and physical stamina proved to be the difference. Evelyn then went on to face the top player out of Orchard Park and lost 0-6, 1-6. That particular result couldn't tarnish how special a day the freshman superstar out of Springville had.
The next day, Evelyn had to play two additional matches. With one win, Evelyn would secure a spot in the sectional tennis tournament. Her first-round opponent was the top player from Lancaster. Evelyn lost a tough 3-set match by a score of 6-7, 7-5, 2-6. Despite the result, Evelyn knew she had to mentally move forward and prepare for her next opponent. Evelyn ended up playing the top player out of Sweet Home, and she took home a tough 7-6, 6-4 victory. This match saw Evelyn down multiple times, but as has been the case all year, Evelyn refused to go away. Her tremendous shot-making and clutch play carried her to the win.
The win gave Evelyn a 7th-place singles finish in the tournament (comprised of the best players from D1-D4) and a trip to the sectional tournament. Evelyn's match time and opponent will be revealed later this afternoon.
Big congratulations to all our players who participated in the tournament, and a huge round of applause for Eveleyn Berry as she continues her season!

Each year, the yearbook class has the opportunity to sit down with a professional graphic designer, along with our yearbook rep, to discuss our ideas for our yearbook cover and the overall theme of our book. We have been complimented by our yearbook rep on the unique design and themes that we come up with each year. Our class really prides itself on bringing their own digital or physical designs to these meetings. This year, Lylah Heferle submitted her digital artwork to the graphic designer for collaboration, along with the brainstorming efforts of multiple other students. Through Zoom, we were able to sit and watch our graphic designer bring our ideas to life on Photoshop. He used the actual artwork that we sent in to contribute to the final cover design. Students also chose the background for our design, the headlines for the front cover, the fonts, and the colors we will be including. This is truly a student-made publication, and their ideas are what make our yearbook so special each year.
