Sage Baranowski earned the top female markswoman, Blake Grigsby earned the top male marksman, and Gannyn Gaulin earned the most improved marksman for the season. Congratulations to Sage, Blake, Gannyn and the entire team for a great season!

Mrs. Coughlin's 8th-grade health class has been learning to eat like an athlete, which includes protein, whole grains, healthy fats and antioxidants. Recently, the class participated in a cook-off competition with those parameters in mind. The teams made a BBQ chicken, avocado and rice bowl, an egg and avocado toast, oatmeal with coconut, nuts and berries and a ham, egg and cheese sandwich on sourdough. Five judges, including three students, Mr. Reese and Mrs. Wozniak, judged the dishes, and the winner was the chicken and rice bowl team! Congratulations, Matthew, Blake, William and Jack!

Attention SGI Middle & High School Students: The SGI FFA is offering a Hunter's Safety Course on Saturday, April 11 at 8AM at Springville Field and Stream for all students 11+. Pre-registration is required through the NYSDEC website, and you must pick up pre-course homework at the Concord Town Hall or download and print it from the online registration page. Before spring break, students in Mrs. R. Benz's classes participated in a positivity activity as part of an ELA lesson on character traits. They identified qualities that make someone a positive influence — such as kindness, encouragement, and making learning fun— and then shared those traits with staff members by delivering notes and small treats. The activity gave students an opportunity to apply their learning in a meaningful way while helping spread positivity throughout the school.

Recently, the SGI Fiddlers performed at the Springville Arts Cafe. Under the direction of Mrs. Skowronski, the fiddle club performed two entire sets of music, with an added bonus of special guests, Mr. Bannister and Ms. V, accompanying the fiddlers on guitar and cajon (a percussion instrument). The students did an amazing job and received a standing ovation! In case you missed them, they will be performing at the Art Crawl this year on Saturday, June 6th; time to be announced!

Chicks recently hatched in Mrs. Witherow's class at Springville Middle School! The class has used the hands-on learning opportunity to discover how chickens develop in the egg. After the lesson, the chicks will be headed to Mrs. Witherow's farm.

The SGI Fiddlers, the after-school fiddle club that is offered at Springville Middle School, performed at the Fiddler's Green Manor in February! The students did an amazing job performing, and the staff and residents loved the performance! They hope to perform there again! The SGI Fiddlers have other performances scheduled later in the year at places such as the Arts Cafe and the Art Crawl; keep an eye out for where they will perform next!

Another group of 8th grade Art students visited the Burchfield Penney Art Center to discuss and learn about what is currently on display. The students created a piece of art inspired by artwork on exhibit. This group created their own original felt badges under the direction of Michaela Worosz, Manager of School and Studio Programs at the Art Center.

The SMS Student Council Neon Dance will be on Friday, March 27, from 6:30 to 8:00 pm, featuring DJ SENSEDOG. Admission is $5.00. Pizza, pop and snacks will be available for purchase outside of the gym (no food or drinks are allowed in the gym). Casual attire.
Please plan to be picked up promptly at 8:00 pm. No students will be admitted after 7:00 pm. If you need to leave early, a parent or guardian must come in to sign you out.
Only Springville MS students may attend the dance. Students from other schools may not attend.
You must be present in school on the day of the dance to attend. All school rules (including dress code) will be in effect during the dance. Students who are not following school rules may be asked to leave.

Springville Middle School will hold local final exams on Monday, June 22nd, and Tuesday, June 23rd — the first two half days of the final week of school. All students in grades 6, 7, and 8 will take local exams on these dates.

In addition, 8th graders will complete a multi-part World Language exam during the week of June 15th.

More details about local final exams will be shared as the end of the year approaches.

The SGI Fiddlers will perform on Thursday, March 26th, from 6:30-8:00 pm at the Springville Arts Cafe! The SGI Fiddlers is a middle school club made up of 6th-8th graders who were in the club in their earlier years at SES. Come out to support our young musicians and enjoy a night of music!

Please join us in congratulating the Middle School Students of the Monty, who were recognized for the character trait of teamwork! Great job, Asher, Reese, Lena, Clara, Lewis, Ava, Alex, and Blake!

A select group of art students from the middle and high school represented SGI in the Ready, Set, Create Student Art Competition sponsored by Erie 1 BOCES at Villa Maria College. Over 200 students from 13 school districts participated. The artists had just two hours to create an artwork on the spot based on the prompt “transformation”. Senior Amanda Tartick won first place in the Advanced Artist Division. Isabella Bateman (grade 10), and Rosalie Smith (grade 8) received the Judge’s Recognition Awards. The SGI Art Department is incredibly proud of all the participants who enthusiastically showcased their skills and talents while spontaneously expressing their creativity!

SMS held the annual volleyball tournament, pitting grade levels against each other and the teachers to determine a winner! This year, the teachers thought they could not be stopped until the 8th-grade team, consisting of Layla Batterson, Nikita Eckam, Chloe Wallum, Laila Brightman, Oliver Prinino, Logan Georger, Ross Michalski, Tristan Colern, won it all!

Unified sports give students with disabilities a meaningful opportunity to be included in sports. Unified sports events are an opportunity for everyone to have fun and be included. Unified as well as modified, JV and varsity games are listed on the calendar of events on our website. Come support the Griffins at an upcoming game!

Springville Middle School recently held its quarterly academic breakfast. For Q2, we recognized students for consistently demonstrating responsible behavior and doing what is expected. Great job, middle schoolers!

The SMS students in Mrs. R. Benz's period 5 class have learned that hard work really pays off. Mrs. R. Benz recently held a class competition for the class that completed the most i-Ready lessons. i-Ready is an online program for reading and/or mathematics that helps determine students' needs, personalize their learning, and monitor progress throughout the school year. They celebrated their win with a hot cocoa bar and a movie.
