The New York State Digital Equity Survey for parents is a crucial tool for understanding and promoting educational equity, including digital equity for all students in New York State. The survey collects data on student access to devices and internet access in their places of residence, helping educators better serve their students and families. Parents or guardians are encouraged to complete the survey for each child.

The first couple of meetings of SMS's new Spirit Club are in the books. Spirit Club is a new activity for students at SMS to attend on Fridays during 12th period to decorate and make seasonal crafts. Students have made snowflakes out of paper bags to hang around the school and ornaments for teachers so far. Mrs. R. Recently, seventh graders experienced Seneca culture firsthand during our annual Native American Culture Day, led by representatives of the Seneca Nation. Students rotated through interactive stations featuring corn husk doll-making and storytelling, Seneca instruments and traditional regalia, and cultural items and games — including learning about the history and importance of lacrosse. The day also highlighted the power of oral tradition and how stories carry teachings, values, and history across generations.
Thank you to our Seneca Nation partners and Mr. Karb for organizing this learning experience for our students! #ExperientialLearning #CommunityConnections #RedefiningRural

Middle School P.E. classes took advantage of the snow by learning cross-country skiing for the first time! Cross-country skiing is a full-body, low-impact activity that provides excellent cardiovascular and muscular benefits. It improves heart and lung endurance while engaging the legs, core, and upper body through continuous movement and balance. Because of its smooth gliding motion, it is gentle on the joints, making it suitable for a wide range of ages and fitness levels. In addition to physical benefits, cross-country skiing supports mental well-being by reducing stress, boosting mood, and encouraging time outdoors during the winter months. Overall, it is an effective and enjoyable way to stay active, build endurance, and maintain fitness year-round.

The final step in the Youth Voices, Holiday Choices initiative was recently completed by student and staff volunteers. The winning designs to deter driving under the influence were made into stickers and stuck to paper bags that will be used at Cheap Chollies Wine and Liquor in conjunction with National Impaired Driving Prevention Month. The initiative, which was led by SADD and Above the Influence, resulted in compelling anti-DWI designs that were assessed by a judging panel of community leaders.

Attention 8th Grade Parents and Caregivers who helped their child sell Cookie Dough for the Washington, D.C. Trip: The cookie dough will be delivered to the Middle School on Tuesday, December 9th. Please note that each student will get a box that has their name, the items they bought, and a list of who bought what — all in a very user-friendly way. Their prizes will be delivered then as well. If a student sold over $100 worth, we recommend getting a ride home that day. We kindly ask that you do not arrive before 1:30 PM to help with your child's order. Questions should be directed to 8th Grade Teacher Mr. Beiter at abeiter@springvillegi.org.

Our middle and high school students embraced the challenge of creating art to encourage safe choices this holiday season. The initiative, led by SADD and Above the Influence, will culminate in the anti-DWI messages being printed on paper bags and used at Cheap Chollies Wine and Liquor starting December 1st in conjunction with National Impaired Driving Prevention Month. The compelling designs were assessed by a judging panel of community leaders, including representatives from the Erie County Sheriff’s Office and local businesses. The winning entries earned the student artists a variety of local prizes.
