After reading Marion Dane Bauer’s "In Like a Lion, Out Like a Lamb," students in Mrs. Duerr’s and Mrs. Spielberger’s first-grade classes at SES put their own spin on March weather.
Each student chose their favorite side—the roaring "Lion" storms or the gentle "Lamb" sunshine—and wrote about the reasons behind their choice. This project allowed our young writers to practice expressing opinions while exploring the changing seasons.

TIES members recently enjoyed a lively Craft Night at Sicamohr Arts, part of our continued partnership with this wonderful local studio. Students tapped into their creativity by designing their own fidgets — combining imagination, hands-on fun, and a chance to unwind together!

Mrs. Coughlin's 8th-grade health class has been learning to eat like an athlete, which includes protein, whole grains, healthy fats and antioxidants. Recently, the class participated in a cook-off competition with those parameters in mind. The teams made a BBQ chicken, avocado and rice bowl, an egg and avocado toast, oatmeal with coconut, nuts and berries and a ham, egg and cheese sandwich on sourdough. Five judges, including three students, Mr. Reese and Mrs. Wozniak, judged the dishes, and the winner was the chicken and rice bowl team! Congratulations, Matthew, Blake, William and Jack!

Students in Mrs. Duerr's and Mrs. Spielberger’s first-grade classes at Springville Elementary recently turned into young engineers. After studying the life cycle of chickens, the children faced a "farm-to-table" dilemma: how to safely transport an egg from a high hayloft to a ground-level nest.
The mission was to design a device that would allow a farmer to drop an egg without it breaking. Through trial, error, and plenty of creativity, these students explored the basics of physics and protection.

Before spring break, students in Mrs. R. Benz's classes participated in a positivity activity as part of an ELA lesson on character traits. They identified qualities that make someone a positive influence — such as kindness, encouragement, and making learning fun— and then shared those traits with staff members by delivering notes and small treats. The activity gave students an opportunity to apply their learning in a meaningful way while helping spread positivity throughout the school.
