Students in Mrs. Duerr's and Mrs. Spielberger’s first-grade classes at Springville Elementary recently turned into young engineers. After studying the life cycle of chickens, the children faced a "farm-to-table" dilemma: how to safely transport an egg from a high hayloft to a ground-level nest.
The mission was to design a device that would allow a farmer to drop an egg without it breaking. Through trial, error, and plenty of creativity, these students explored the basics of physics and protection.

Last week, students had the opportunity to visit the Sugar Shack, where they learned about the process of making maple syrup. Mr. Chaddock and the fifth-grade students work hard each year to collect the sap from the grounds around SES and process the sap into golden maple syrup. The students once again made delicious maple candy, which was sold alongside the syrup in order to fund future activities and field trips.

The Fourth Grade Golden Griffin Sellers are running a bustling business at Springville Elementary! The student entrepreneurs are involved in every part of the business - from their name to the products they sell to marketing and finances. They can be found most Wednesdays selling fun pens and pencils, bookmarks, keychains, lanyards and even plants in the SES lobby. Proceeds from their business fund the Gallivan Grant, a scholarship for a 5th grader to follow their passions in honor of the late Colleen Gallivan, as well as an end-of-year celebration for the fourth graders.

Five students from SES earned a special experiential learning field trip to Julie’s Pizzeria! Each student made their very own pizza, chose their toppings, cooked their pizza, and then ate it! It was a fun way to connect with the community and learn how a kitchen runs! Thank you to Julie’s for collaborating with SGI to provide this opportunity!

As part of PARP (Pick A Reading Partner), SES welcomed Nickel City Reptiles and Exotics to the school. From lizards with no legs to adorable lemurs, students had a blast learning about exotic animals from all around the world. This engaging and interactive experience sparked curiosity, taught science, and bridged the gap between classroom science and the natural world.
Last week, SES celebrated reading all week with PARP (Pick A Reading Partner)! We welcomed local author Eric Williams as part of the week's activities. Mr. Williams spent the day telling stories and getting the students excited about writing their own stories. He is a positive role model in our community and is well known by many students through his work at the Club. Some lucky students even had the opportunity to have lunch with Mr. Williams. Thank you, Mr. Williams, for showing the students at SES that stories are not just words on a page but can be created by people just like them!
SGI Celebrated St. Patrick's Day last week! The first graders in Mrs. Maybach and Mrs. Anderson’s classes at Colden Elementary utilized the healthy choices cart to make “Leprechaun Smoothies” made with frozen fruit, spinach, orange juice, bananas, and yogurt. They also wrote about their leprechauns, played games and more! The naughty leprechaun was searching for his gold in Mrs. Ballantyne's class at SES! The kids tried to trap him with their rainbow traps, but with NO success! The leprechaun sprayed silly string all over the classroom. He even made the toilet water green. The class followed the gold sprinkles and M&M trail out the window, and he left each of them a cookie. Maybe they'll catch him next year! The kindergartners also took part in Lucky Charms graphing, making leprechauns, and Fruit Loop rainbows!

Mrs. Ballantyne’s class had a fantastic Dr. Seuss Week in kindergarten! They kicked things off with Fox in Socks, celebrated The Cat in the Hat, and had a super silly Wacky Wednesday! On Thursday, they enjoyed Put Me in the Zoo, and rounded out the week by making Green Eggs and Ham! So many smiles, laughs, and fun learning moments. What a great week in kindergarten!

Congratulations to our amazing 4th Grade SES Band & Orchestra students on a fantastic debut concert! 🎺🎻 We are so proud of the hard work, dedication, and courage it took to perform for the first time.
Thank you to our families, teachers, and community members for supporting our young musicians and celebrating the start of their musical journey. The future of our music program is bright! 🌟🎶👏

Mrs. Pfeiffer's class at SES recently made their own fossils in science!

Mrs. Ballantyne's kindergarten class enjoyed celebrating Valentine's Spirit Week!

Can you believe 101 days of school have passed?! First grade at SES celebrated the 101st day of school by dressing as Dalmatians and participating in activities focused on being together for 101 days and on ways to make 101. As an added bonus, Mrs. Call's therapy dog, Dutches, visited the students. It brightened everyone's day!

Springville Elementary kindergartners celebrated the 100th Day of School yesterday! Students dressed as 100-year-olds and wore 100th day T-shirts - and some students even matched! They participated in 100-theme activities throughout the day!

Students in Mr. Kohl's and Ms. Hamister's classrooms wrapped up their Native American unit by selecting projects to showcase their learning. Students gathered data and researched materials about Native American artifacts. Other students opted to make a Google Slides presentation to share with the class. The model wigwams and longhouses continue to impress! The ingenuity and design of the projects have been outstanding!

Last week, Mrs. Clauss and Mr. Chaddock’s classes took advantage of the sunshine and “warmer” temps to soak up some tubing and Vitamin C!
