Fifth graders at SES participated in Valentine's Day activities yesterday. In addition to Valentine's Bingo and a STEAM activity, the students created character hearts for their classmates. Each student made a heart with their name on it, and their classmates wrote a positive character trait that they exemplify. Mrs. Pazzuti also got in on the heartwarming activity!

SES students and families were led to a land of pure imagination as fourth- and fifth-graders performed the musical Willy Wonka Jr. Students took on roles of familiar characters like Willy Wonka, Charlie Bucket, and more. The entire cast gave a wonderful performance from the songs to the choreography under the direction of Mrs. Mealer. Please join us in congratulating the cast and volunteers on an excellent show!

Mrs. Ballantyne’s kindergarten had a groundhog-tastic Groundhog Day! They enjoyed reading many fun groundhog stories, creating a directed drawing of a groundhog, graphing their predictions about whether Phil would see his shadow, and making an adorable paper groundhog. They guessed it right — Phil saw his shadow, which means six more weeks of winter!

BFLO Worm Works visited SES 5th Graders to give them a hands-on experience about decomposition and the role worms play in this process. This experiential learning experience supported their ELA learning, as they are taking a deep dive into the unit "Beauty of Rot," which focuses on how decomposition benefits our world. In the spring, we will use the compost bin they created to build a garden outside the 5th-grade wing #RedefiningRural #ExperientialLearning

Our SES students love having fun in the snow! Shout out in the comments if you have fond memories of winters at SES!

SES finished the week before winter break with a day of fun activities during the annual SES PTO Holiday Carnival! High school students visited to do face painting and caroling in the halls. Students made their own holiday crafts, played holiday games, ate milk and cookies, and visited with Santa! The day ended with a special musical performance from our teachers!

Mrs. Clauss' class had a special visitor! An elf visited the fifth graders, but rather than being from the North Pole, she was from a bit closer to home! The elf was actually one of the students' grandmothers, and she has made it a tradition to surprise her granddaughter during the holidays with a visit to her class!

The week leading up to winter break is a magical time at SES! Students dressed up in the holiday gear, made gingerbread houses, frosted cookies and enjoyed some holiday activities!
