Bryce Cook: 15-1 singles record, 1st team All-League, and a 6th place finish at ECIC’s.
Garrison Heichberger: First-year singles player, 12-4 singles record, and a 10-2 record in league.
Liam Bobseine/Matt Baumgartner: 14-2 doubles record, 11-1 league record, and 1st Team All-league.
Forrest Prouty/Avery Noeson: 13-3 doubles record and 12-1 league record.
Frank Keeton/Will Prinino/Kaiden Bialasik: 16-0 Overall record (12-0 Keeton/Prinino, 4-0 Keeton/Bialasik)
This season will forever be remembered for the team’s success, but most importantly, the leadership and maturity of SGI’s five seniors. Bryce Cook, Garrison Heichberger, Matt Baumgartner, Liam Bobseine, and Forrest Prouty set the example from day one, and the team never looked back. Congratulations to all members of the boys' tennis team on a great season!
Matthew first learned to play golf four years ago with the help of a neighbor who generously taught him the game and gave him a set of youth clubs. It is a reminder of the lasting impact that encouragement and mentorship from adults can have on a young person’s life.
Please join us in cheering Matthew on at States!

First singles from East Aurora forfeited the match, so Bryce Cook walked away with the forfeit victory in both matches.
In second singles action, Garrison Heichberger won the first match 8-6. That match showed the resiliency and fight Heichberger is well known for on the courts. He battled back from being down multiple times and fought his way to a big first-match victory. In the second contest, Garrison lost 4-8, but it wasn’t from a lack of quality play. Garrison hustled throughout the contest, making the match very competitive.
In first doubles action, the duo of Liam Bobseine and Matt Baumgartner won the first match 8-2. It was some of the best tennis out of the seniors this season as they crushed baseline shots and controlled the net. In the second match, it was more of the same as the combination of Matt’s power and Liam’s solid net play proved far too much for EA to handle as SGI won 8-4.
In second doubles play, Forest Prouty and Avery Noeson lost their first match 5-8. The boys knew they played a good match but had a lot more to give in the second match to pick up the point, and they did just that. Noeson and Prouty took the second match in a thrilling 9-7 set win, which saw both players excel from the service line and baseline. It was a big-time response from two players who have improved drastically as the season has progressed.
In third doubles action, Will Prinino and Frank Keeton took the first match 8-5. The tandem continued their solid play of controlling the baseline and pounding the ball up front to win points. In the second match, Prinino and Keeton won 8-3. It was more of the same as both players stayed consistent and played excellent team tennis.
Last night’s results complete one of the best boys tennis seasons in recent memory. None of this is accomplished without the tremendous leadership displayed by our seniors: Bryce Cook, Garrison Heichberger, Forrest Prouty, Liam Bobseine and Matt Baumgartner. Those 5 young men have set the standard for the program and demonstrated what it means to be high-performing student athletes.
The boys finish their season 15-1 overall and CHAMPIONS OF DIVISION 4. Great job, guys!

In his first match of the day, Bryce took on the first singles player from Hamburg and won 6-4, 6-7, and 6-1. Bryce showed off great stamina on the day and stellar shot-making from the baseline. Bryce’s ability to stay patient and play smart was a huge reason for the win.
Next up was an opportunity to qualify for sectionals, as he faced the top player from Iroquois. Bryce once again made his opponent work for every point, and never quit, but eventually fell in three sets by a score of:
3-6, 7-5, 0-6.
Despite the final result, nobody had a tournament like Bryce had. He played five matches, over two days, and had four of those matches go to three sets. Bryce put SGI boys tennis on the map with his performances in a tournament involving only the very best players in the area. Be sure to congratulate Bryce on an incredible showing.
Next up, we travel to East Aurora today with the division on the line in a huge matchup. It’ll be a doubleheader contest with the winner taking home the D4 championship. Come out and support the guys!

In singles action, Garrison Heichberger lost 1-6
0-6 to Clarence. Garrison never quit and played a number of competitive games in each set despite the result.
In doubles action, Forrest Prouty and Avery Noeson lost 3-6, 3-6 to Lancaster. It was a match filled with opportunity and solid play. The boys couldn’t quite get the result they wanted but still played a fine match.
In doubles action, Matt Baumgartner and Liam Bobseine lost a thrilling three-set match: 4-6,
7-6 and 6-7 to Sweet Home. The boys consistently traded points and games with their opponents throughout the three sets. Matt and Liam both hit some incredible shots on the day and have a lot to be proud of with their effort.
Wrapping up the action on the day was Bryce Cook, and he left his mark with some incredible tennis. First up was a three-set win over Williamsville North by a score of 6-2, 4-6, and 6-3. Bryce battled with his opponent and made some nice adjustments with his play to get the win. Next up was a date with a player from Lancaster. Once again, Bryce went the distance and won: 2-6, 7-6 and 6-2. Bryce was excellent with his forehand and hit some big serves to advance in the tournament. For his last match of the day, Bryce squared off with Orchard Park and lost 1-6, 1-6. Bryce gave a great effort and never quit. With that result, Bryce advances to day 2 of the tournament as he hopes to qualify for sectionals. His first match is at 3:00 pm at EA this afternoon.
Congratulations to all of our guys who competed in the tournament.
Lastly, the boys' tennis team will travel to East Aurora tomorrow afternoon in hopes of winning Division 4. Should be a great match!

In the first singles play, Bryce Cook lost 0-6, 1-6. Bryce played one of the area's best players and wasn't overwhelmed. Cook nailed multiple aces and winners on the day.
In second singles action, Garrison Heichberger lost 4-6, 6-7 (8-10) in one of the best matches of the year. Heichberger was at his best from the baseline on the day and was consistent from the service line. Despite the loss, Garrison played one of his best matches of the season.
In first doubles play, Matt Baumgartner and Liam Bobseine lost 1-6, 3-6. Matt was fantastic from the baseline with his forehand, and Liam did a terrific job striking his two-handed backhand. The loss was deceiving as the duo played at a high level and could've brought the match to a third set.
In second doubles action, Avery Noeson and Forrest Prouty won a thrilling three-set match by a score of 6-4, 5-7, 6-4. The boys did a great job rebounding from the second set loss to focus on the decisive third set. Forrest was excellent with his feet and hustle, and Avery crushed home many winners from the net to capture the win.
In third doubles play, Will Prinino and Kaiden Bialasik won 6-3, 6-3. The pair were impressive on the day, with Kaiden striking the ball consistently well from the baseline and Will being aggressive at the net.
In exhibition play, Brodie Neureuther and Cullen McAndrew scored a big 6-2 win. Toly Wochensky and Oliver Prinino lost a tough 5-7 match. Tristan Jones and Sebastian Ehrig lost 1-6. And Jackson Keyser and Henry Schuster lost 2-6.
Despite the result being the team's first loss of the season, it gave them a great challenge to prepare for the ECIC Tournament, which is happening today. A big congratulations goes out to Bryce Cook, Garrison Heichberger, Liam Bobseine, Matt Baumgartner, Avery Noeson and Forrest Prouty on being selected to this prestigious event!
The season is not over, as Division 4 still needs to be decided. That match will take place on Thursday, May 21st, at East Aurora to determine the league championship.
