The varsity boys tennis team moved to 10-0 on the season with a 4-1 victory over Lake Shore.
In first singles action, Bryce Cook won 6-4, 6-4. Bryce was exceptional on the day as he kept his feet moving and made some big baseline shots to get the win. Cook’s serve was also a big weapon on the day.
In the second singles play, Garrison Heichberger lost 4-6, 4-6. The match was extremely close throughout as both players were about as even as it could get. Garrison showed some terrific net play and hustle despite the loss.
In first doubles action, Matt Baumgartner and Liam Bobseine won 6-1, 6-4. The duo played a near-flawless first set as both players were hitting their shots consistently. The second set was much closer, but the senior tandem found a way to close out the contest.
In second doubles play, Forrest Prouty and Avery Noeson won 6-1, 6-1. The story of the match was the complementary tennis being played by both players. Both guys set each other up consistently, leading to many winners on the day.

The second set saw Bryce handle adversity and overcome his opponent, coming back from a 4-5 deficit. It was one of Bryce’s best wins of the season.
In the second singles play, Garrison Heichberger lost 4-6, 4-6. Garrison played a solid match, and even came back from a 2-5 deficit in the second set, but couldn’t quite come all the way back. Despite the result, Garrison should have terrific mental toughness and perseverance.

Pageant of Bands Marches into Springville May 14 – 16
This year’s Springville Pageant of Bands marches into town on Thursday, May 14th and Friday, May 15th, with regional concert band and jazz ensemble competitions at Springville-Griffith Institute High School. Saturday morning, May 16th, kicks off with concert band, color guard and percussion competitions at the High School. Finally, the Pageant of Bands Parade will leave the High School around 1:00 p.m. and hit Main Street at 1:30 p.m. for judging and viewing.
All ensembles are judged by experienced music educators and are evaluated on technique and overall musicianship. The marching bands participating in the parade are evaluated over a 300-foot reviewing section of Main Street.
This year, several bands from various school systems within the regional area will be participating in the 62nd Pageant of Bands parade. The Springville Pageant of Bands, one of the longest-running pageants of its kind in New York State, showcases many of the area’s fine young musicians. The finale of the day, the awards ceremony for the Pageant, takes place on the high school’s Pop Warner Field immediately following the parade.
Food and beverages, provided by the Springville Kiwanis, will be available Saturday at the high school concession stand at the entrance to Pop Warner Field. Proceeds from the concession stand and donations from many generous Springville area businesses directly help support the pageant.
Come enjoy the sights and sounds of the Springville Pageant of Bands, a true community tradition.
