Springville Boys Modified Football came up just short in a 26–28 battle, but their effort and unity stood tall. This group played with heart, supported one another, and never backed down. Even in defeat, they showed what it means to be a team. The Griffins now move to 4–1 on the season, a reminder that true teams grow stronger through every challenge.

Springville Cross Country defeated Cleve-Hill on Wednesday at a 3.1-mile course! The top runner overall Scott Peterman with a time of 17:55! The top female finisher was Elke Melnik!

The girls' modified soccer team won again last night, beating Alden 3-0. Goals were scored by Lilly Trautman, Jordan Merchant and Addie Wochensky. Evelyn Findlay and Sophia Young were a constant force in midfield, moving the ball up to the strikers and hustling back to make stops on defense. A highlight of the game was goalie Arizona Bartlett stopping a penalty kick! The girls play next Wednesday against Holland.
The SMS musical program is going through some exciting changes! The Middle School Musical Society is looking for all 6th - 8th-grade students who are interested in musical theatre! Actors and singers are welcome, as well as students with interests in lighting, sound, costuming and more.
There will be a meeting after school on October 14, 2025, in room 406 at the Middle School. Students can sign up to participate with Mrs. Cummings in room 406. The meeting ends at 3:40. Students may also sign up for the late bus on the musical sign-up sheet.
We will be discussing the many options for our club activities at our first meeting. Student interest and participation will help us develop the programs and performance opportunities we may be able to offer this year. Club advisors are looking forward to a new musical adventure!

The SES PTO will once again host Bingo for Books on Thursday, October 23, from 6:00-7:30 PM. Doors will open at 5:40 and games will begin promptly at 6:00. Costumes are encouraged! Free popcorn and drinks will be provided. All children will leave with a book! Flyers were sent home with students. Don't forget to RSVP for your spot and to enter for the door prize!
Recently at SES, Mrs. Pfeiffer's class made sandbags and tested the strength of their sandbag walls. They discussed what went well and what they could do differently to make stronger walls.
The Springville-Griffith Institute's Community Education is offering an Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED class on November 4 from 5:00-8:00 pm. The cost of registration is $5 and the class fee is $80, payable to the instructor, Erin Alonzo. This course is open to anyone 13+, including students. This is a blended learning course that requires online course work be completed before the date of the class. Register now!

The girls' modified team won a hard-fought game on October 4th against Eden. Down 0-2 at halftime, the girls rallied with two goals from Jordan Merchant and the game-winning goal from Brianna Marinello, assisted by Lilly Trautman and Evelyn Findlay. The defense helped preserve the win in the second half, with timely clearances by Nikita Eckam and Autumn Gamel.

In second doubles action, Jackie Thompson and Teerada Dickson lost 2-6, 1-6. The girls had a tough time getting their games on track, but still competed to the end.
In third doubles action, Alexis Beckwith and Abby Adkison won a three-set thriller by a score of 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (10-7). The girls pulled their games together after the first set and made some terrific shots on the day. It was a great win for the girls!

Each year, the yearbook class has the opportunity to sit down with a professional graphic designer, along with our yearbook rep, to discuss our ideas for our yearbook cover and the overall theme of our book. We have been complimented by our yearbook rep on the unique design and themes that we come up with each year. Our class really prides itself on bringing their own digital or physical designs to these meetings. This year, Lylah Heferle submitted her digital artwork to the graphic designer for collaboration, along with the brainstorming efforts of multiple other students. Through Zoom, we were able to sit and watch our graphic designer bring our ideas to life on Photoshop. He used the actual artwork that we sent in to contribute to the final cover design. Students also chose the background for our design, the headlines for the front cover, the fonts, and the colors we will be including. This is truly a student-made publication, and their ideas are what make our yearbook so special each year.
The annual Ormsby Educational Center Open House will be held on Thursday, October 9, from 6-8 p.m. Meet Career & Technical Education instructors, tour programs, observe student demonstrations, and participate in hands-on activities. On Saturday, October 4, the Springville-Griffith Institute cross country teams competed in the Southern Tier Classic at Allegany-Limestone CSD. The Griffins delivered strong performances across the board, highlighted by junior Elke Melnik, who placed 1st overall for girls. Isabella Bogner placed 6th and Caitlyn Rzepecki 17th. The girls team finished 2nd overall with 75 girls running in the race. The boys' team finished 5th overall with 119 total boy runners in the race.
Scott Peterman finished 10th overall for boys, and Bryce Cook finished 28th.
The next league meet will be against Cleve-Hill on Wednesday. Go Griffins!

The girls' tennis team traveled to a large school powerhouse, Williamsville South, on Friday night and lost 4-1.
In the first singles play, Evelyn Berry lost
5-7, 5-7. It was a great match played by two phenomenal tennis players. Evelyn raised her level of play as the match progressed, showing why she will be one of the best players in the area over time.
In the second singles play, Natalie Rumfola won a classic match in three sets by a score of:
3-6, 6-2, 7-6. Natalie rallied from a one-set deficit and showed tremendous mental toughness to get the win. Natalie’s timely drop shots and hustle got the big win!
In first doubles action, Peyton Wells and Taylor Wells lost 3-6, 4-6. The first set saw every game go to deuce as both teams were evenly matched. The sisters played their best match of the year despite the result and continue to improve as a team.

Recently, Colden Elementary students visited The Buleberry Tree House in recognition of demonstrating September's character trait of respect! In addition to the students, Mrs. Habermehl, Miss Imhoff, and Mrs. Mercurio were nominated by their colleagues to participate in the trip!
