Speed Ball Under the Lights!
Grades 2-8 came out Tuesday night to show off their speed, agility, throwing, catching, and most importantly - sportsmanship! Three fields of nonstop energy, smiles, and competition made for an awesome night. Thank you to all the volunteers for running it and the parents for bringing everyone out. Go Griffs!

The girls' modified soccer team finished their season on a 7-game winning streak by beating Eden 2-0 on Monday. Goals were scored by Jeana Collins and Jordan Merchant. Autumn Gamel and Tia Lemanski locked down the center of the field. Goalies Nikita Eckam and Arizona Bartlett got shutouts in 5 of their last 6 games. The Lady Griffs finished the season with an 8-2 record, beating every team in their division. 

This week, SGI students heard from NYSP spokesman, Trooper O'Callaghan and SGI alumna, Trooper Komenda, about the dangers of distracted driving and driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Their presentation emphasized how one bad decision can have life-threatening consequences.
Then students were asked to tackle holiday drunk driving head-on with the "Youth Voices. Holiday Choices. Campaign" contest. The initiative, headed by S.A.D.D and Above the Influence, challenges students in grades 6-12 to design compelling anti-DWI messages that will be printed on paper bags and used at Cheap Chollies Wine and Liquor starting December 1st. Students are competing for prizes, including Kissing Bridge passes and gift certificates, with submissions due by November 7th.

Springville Girls Varsity Swim Team Shines at Class C Prelims! 💜💛

What a night for the SGI girls varsity swim team at the Class C preliminaries! These girls gave it their all and are heading into Thursday’s finals with some incredible performances and rankings! 💪🔥

💥Relay Power!

• The 200 Medley Relay team of Ruzycki, Cook, Crone, and Emerling is sitting strong in 3rd place going into Thursday’s finals.

• The 200 Free Relay of Crone, Cook, Annunziata, and McAndrew dropped 3 seconds tonight and is currently ranked 1st!

• The 400 Free Relay of McAndrew, Ruzycki, Emerling and Annunziata are ranked 5th!

🏊‍♀️Individual Highlights:

• Maeve Annunziata is in a great position in the 200 Free and also returning for finals in the 50 Free.

• Corinne McAndrew (Pictured) had an incredible night—she’s 3rd in the 200 Free and 1st in the 500 Free, while also breaking both school records in those events! 👏She’ll be looking to improve her times even more in the finals!

• Kendra Cook is 5th in the 200 IM and 2nd in the 100 Breaststroke—amazing swims!

• Helen Emerling and Sophia Lightcap will both return for finals in their 200 IM and 100 Fly events.

• Brooke Ruzycki returns for both her individual events—the 100 Free and 100 Backstroke.

• Kiersten Crone is heading into finals ranked 3rd in the 50 Free—way to go!

• Kayla Lightcap is the first alternate in the 200 Free—great job earning that spot!

• Sophia Eysaman and Rebecca Lightcap both swam their first Class C meet in the 100 Fly and had time improvements—well done, girls!

👏Congratulations to all of these athletes for representing SGI with pride and heart!

Happy Spookley Day! Mrs. Ballantyne's Kindergarteners had so much fun learning that being different makes you special when reading the book "Spookley the Square Pumpkin." Everyone has unique and valuable qualities
with something important to offer. The story encourages kids to treat others with kindness, no matter how they look or what makes them different. They created a paper Spookley and made a graham cracker Spookley as a tasty treat to watch during the movie.

The JV Griffins football team grew week by week this season, culminating in a victorious finale, 30-0 at home versus Akron. The stingy defense forced 3 turnovers, 2 INTs and 1 fumble recovery on the night. Adrian Jordan recovered a fumble and had multiple sacks. Blake Grigsby and Wyatt Reinard each had an INT. Calvin Goodwill hit Michael Holy on a fake punt conversion early in the game, which seemed to spark the offense. That drive was finished with Carson Glass’s first rushing touchdown. Max Griffith added another rushing TD in the second quarter, taking a 16-0 lead into halftime. After Glass’s 2nd rushing touchdown in the 3rd quarter, he bombed a nearly 50-yard TD pass caught by Freddy Heary in the end zone. After a tough season, the JV team's determination, perseverance, and grit overcame the odds and proved to be a successful formula. Congratulations, Griffs.

The Boys Varsity Soccer Team was able to overcome a two-goal deficit in their semifinals match vs Alden to win 4-3 in overtime. Goals by Marcus Heichberger, Bryce Cook(2), and Justin Emerling got the Griffins the end result they were looking for with plenty of work from the defense, midfield, and Remington in net. Marcus also provided two assists to Bryce, while Bryce assisted Justin's goal.

Garrison Heichberger and Ryan Miga were dominant forces in ball possession and moving the ball into dangerous areas for the Griffins to capitalize.

Well done to the team, who now looks forward to playing in the Section VI Class B Finals on Thursday, at West Seneca East High School at 6 pm against Lafayette.

Springville is back at it again! Two teams from the Springville FFA chapter are taking a trip to Indianapolis for the National FFA Convention. The Milk Quality team competed against 26 other teams at states, while Agronomy competed against 12 other teams at the state fair. Both teams received first place, making them eligible to compete at nationals. Being able to send teams to Nationals is a privilege that Springville has been able to do consistently over the years. Thank you to Ms. Nickerson for spending countless hours helping these students feel confident and prepared for the big competition. Be sure to wish these students luck before they leave!

Mr. Reese's seventh-grade science classes recently engaged in the "Measuring with a Purpose" lesson, which added some friendly competition, as well as a slingshot and water balloons, to the learning experience of how to properly measure. The students had to use a triple-beam balance to very accurately measure the water balloons. They measured the distance that their water balloons traveled and received points for hitting a target. Points count toward extra credit, and the winners will receive a prize.

The Boys Varsity Soccer team played Tapestry Charter School in their Quarterfinal game and won 7-1.
Justin Emerling had four goals, Bryce Cook and Marcus Heichberger each scored as well, along with Bryce forcing an own goal from Tapestry. Assists provided by Noah Regan, Bryce Cook, Justin Emerling, and Cosmo Fruehauf.

Our defense, led by Garrison Heichberger, Hunter Swanson, along with the play of Ryan Miga and Will Prinino in midfield, shut down Tapestry's attack all night.

We play tonight at Alden for a spot in the Sectionals Final.

Friday was #BigAppleCrunch Day! The Big Apple Crunch takes place in October of each year, inviting everyone to take a bite out of a New York-grown apple to celebrate the apple harvest and inspire us to eat local! Springville and Colden Elementary students love taking a big bite out of their apples served at lunch by SGI Culinary!

The girls' modified soccer team extended their winning streak to six games last night with a 1-0 victory against Tonawanda. Jordan Merchant scored the game-winning buzzer-beater goal with 3 seconds left in double overtime. Harper Nadolny was a force in the midfield, with timely contributions by Skylar Kowalczyk, Audrey Wagner and Lilyana DiFrancesco. The Lady Griffs are currently in second place in their division and wrap up the season with a home game against Eden on Monday at the SGI turf field.

Next Week, SMS will participate in Red Ribbon Week with a week of dress-up days!
