Attention 8th Grade Parents and Caregivers who helped their child sell Cookie Dough for the Washington, D.C. Trip: The cookie dough will be delivered to the Middle School on Tuesday, December 9th. Please note that each student will get a box that has their name, the items they bought, and a list of who bought what — all in a very user-friendly way. Their prizes will be delivered then as well. If a student sold over $100 worth, we recommend getting a ride home that day. We kindly ask that you do not arrive before 1:30 PM to help with your child's order. Our middle and high school students embraced the challenge of creating art to encourage safe choices this holiday season. The initiative, led by SADD and Above the Influence, will culminate in the anti-DWI messages being printed on paper bags and used at Cheap Chollies Wine and Liquor starting December 1st in conjunction with National Impaired Driving Prevention Month. The compelling designs were assessed by a judging panel of community leaders, including representatives from the Erie County Sheriff’s Office and local businesses. The winning entries earned the student artists a variety of local prizes.

STEAM Lessons have returned to Colden Elementary. Recently, Mrs. Anderson's first grade class learned about how spiders can fly using a parachute, so they set out to make their own parachutes for their own plastic spider. They used a fan to try to blow their creations the farthest.

Second-grade students at Colden Elementary recently welcomed two Mystery Readers - Samantha Wasiela and Nicole Hallick, both parents of second-graders. The students loved the stories they shared!
High School student representatives recently spoke at class meetings about Agency in our schools. They shared questions about student voice in the classroom and what kind of environment they experience on a day-to-day basis, and the classes were able to answer using Kahoot. Agency is one of the five pillars in the district's strategic plan, and this is one way we are continuing to work toward Agency through student voice. Middle school students showed their support for the Student Council’s annual food drive to benefit the Springville Food Pantry! Eighth grade won the friendly competition, and 8th-grade Student Council members were able to deliver over 560 items to the pantry to stock the shelves for the holiday season. Mrs. Hamister's, Mrs. Tester's and Mrs. Voigt's 4th-grade, Mrs. Hess's 2nd-grade and Mrs. Hamm's 1st-grade classes all spent time learning about the history of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Their classes then designed their own balloons for a parade they put on for the fifth graders while they enjoyed their Thanksgiving feast!

Yesterday, SES fifth-graders prepared the wide-ranging menu for the traditional Fifth Grade Feast! Students helped make chicken and vegetable soup, cheesy potatoes, cornbread, stuffing, cranberry sauce, corn, applesauce, and a festive pumpkin dessert. The meal was made even more special thanks to generous donations of roasting chickens from Wendel’s Poultry and Ford Brothers Meats, as well as the students' families! In addition to the meal, the students created cards that were donated to the Trading Post for their Thanksgiving Dinner.

Ms. Kaleta's class had a gobbling good time practicing their turkey-themed addition and subtraction skills!
Yesterday, Colden Elementary students in grades pre-K through 5 participated in the second annual Colden Turkey Trot! Just like in a real race, the students lined up at the starting line, waited for the air horn, and ran laps around the bike path. Everyone received a medal and a certificate with their time.

Last week, Corinne McAndrew competed in the 500 freestyle at States at the Webster Aquatic Facility after winning the 500 free at Sectionals — an incredible achievement for her first appearance at the state meet!
While she didn’t make it back to finals this time, her journey this season has been truly inspiring. Coming back from a season-long injury, Corinne showed determination, resilience, and heart — qualities that make any coach proud.
Corinne also holds the school records in the 200 & 500 free, a testament to her talent and dedication in the pool. She trains year-round, sets ambitious goals for herself, and we wholeheartedly cheer her on as she works toward her dreams for the next varsity season.

Free dental care and dental education will be provided along with a fun day for students at the Bills' Field House. Families who are interested in signing up can contact their child's school nurse.

For the 34th year, Springville High School students provided a special Prevention Education Program for Springville Elementary School fourth graders! The older students, who are involved in peer education leadership through SADD and NHS, provided a set curriculum on drug-free choices and resiliency techniques, such as how to say no if they are uncomfortable.
Prevention Education Partners is a peer education-based program in which high school students were trained by Mr. Joe Marvin. The high school students have done an excellent job on the presentation and rapport with the 4th-grade students!

The SGI High School Seconds Club met to show their appreciation for our recent alumni. The theme for the gathering was kindness. Historic hymns were led by Ralph Mueller, who was invited as a guest speaker on the topic. The students created 60 notes and packages for our alumni to let them know they are not forgotten. The alumni who were chosen are former Seconds Club members who attended baccalaureate and maintain a connection with SGI. Current students, staff, parents, churches, community members, and local businesses, including Concord Crest Golf Course, Realtor Kathy Komenda from Howard Hanna, and Holland Propane, helped support and provide gifts and tokens of kindness that were packed into this year's mailings. Reminder for High Schoolers: SGI will be hosting a Blood Drive on Tuesday, December 3rd, and we’d love your support! Staff and students ages 17 & 18 are welcome to donate. Students 16 and under must obtain a parent/guardian's permission to donate (slips are available in Mrs. Shearer's room). Every donor will have access to snacks and prizes as a thank you for making a life-saving impact.
The Springville HS Key Club will be holding a Toy Donation Drop-off on Thursday, December 11, from 2:30 to 4:30 pm. The drop-off will be held in front of Springville High School.
Please pull up in front of the main doors of the High School during those times, and a member of Key Club will gladly accept your donation. Any new and unwrapped toys and gifts for children, newborns through teenagers, will be gladly accepted.
Donated toys will be distributed to families in need in our area through the Springville Kiwanis/Love Inc. Holiday Toy Collection program.
