Erin Parr from Horizon Health Services recently delivered an engaging and impactful presentation to our 6th-grade students on the dangers of vaping. She educated students on the health risks and long-term consequences associated with vaping, empowering them to make informed and healthy choices.
This presentation is part of a valuable partnership between Horizon Health Services and SMS. Together, we are committed to supporting the well-being of all our students by providing age-appropriate educational programming on substance use prevention. In addition to presentations like this one, Horizon also offers in school access to mental health and substance use intervention services for students who may need additional support.

Springville boys modified football capped off their season with a 33–6 win over an impressive Kenmore West team, finishing with a 6–1 record.
Despite tough weather conditions, the offense once again powered forward with over 300 yards of total offense, while the defense continued its dominance and not allowing a single first down in the first half.
A special shout-out to all the classmates and fans who came out in the rain to cheer on the team, and to the teachers and school staff for lifting these boys up every day.
And of course, a huge thank you to the parents, the team behind the team, for their constant support.
This season, we learned a little about football and a lot about life.

Last week, seventh graders had the opportunity to step back in time for an immerrsive experience at Old Fort Niagara! During the field trip, they toured the fort, hearing re-enactors speak about weaponry, trading, military tactics, fort life, and even got to try on some historical garb!

The score of 10-0. Goals were scored by Justin Emerling (3), Cam Hammer (2), Ryan Miga (2), Bryce Cook, Brendan Wantuck, and Marcus Heichberger. Assists were provided by: Justin (2), Marcus (2), Cam (2), Bryce, Hunter Swanson, and Ryan. The girls' modified soccer team won again, beating East Aurora 2-0. The team now has a 5-game unbeaten streak. Goals were scored by Jordan Merchant and Brianna Marinello. Ava Roy had a goal-line clearance, and Arizona Bartlett stopped a penalty kick in the win.
Mrs. Langworthy was the first Mystery Reader for Colden's second graders. Throughout the year, parents, relatives, and school staff can sign up to be a Mystery Reader. Students look forward to guessing who it will be, based on clues given by the future reader! Mystery Readers are a highlight of the week!
Following a week of Halloween dress-up days, high school students can have a scary good time at Saturday's Halloween Dance! It will be a spooky night of fun, costumes and dancing in the HS Lobby from 7-10 PM. There will be a DJ, a costume contest, pumpkin painting and a donut-eating contest. Tickets are $8 presale or $10 at the door.

On Friday, Springville High School hosted Anna North from North Farms for the first "Meet Your Farmer" event. SGi Culinary served the delicious North Farm's beef stroganoff, and Anna was on hand during lunches, demonstrating another use for beef tallow - as a moisturizer. This event was made possible by the SCALES Grant, which allows SGI Culinary to partner with local farms for the ingredients. We look forward to more events like this one!

The Springville Griffins Varsity Swim Team wrapped up an impressive season with a strong showing at the ECIC Championship Meet held Saturday at Maryvale, finishing 3rd overall in team standings. The Griffins posted 11 personal best times and 5 seasonal bests, capping off a season of hard work, steady improvement, and team spirit.
Kendra Cook led the charge with outstanding performances, earning 3rd place in both the 200 Yard Individual Medley (2:37.62, -5.32) and 100 Yard Breaststroke (1:15.74, -2.41)—both personal bests. Her performance in the 100 Breaststroke qualified her for Sectionals, marking a major milestone for the season. Cook also added a seasonal best in the 50 Yard Freestyle (27.92).
Kayla Lightcap dropped significant time in her events, posting a 12.73-second improvement in the 500 Yard Freestyle (6:59.07) and a 3.14-second drop in the 200 Yard Freestyle (2:35.60), earning 8th place in both races.
In the individual medley events, Helen Emerling (2:49.97, -2.29) and Sophia Lightcap (2:50.30, -3.70) swam to 6th and 7th place finishes, respectively, both achieving new personal bests.
The sprint freestyles brought more success, with Kiersten Crone clocking a personal best of 27.28 in the 50 Free for 5th place, and a seasonal best 59.99 in the 100 Free, breaking the one-minute mark for 4th place overall. Rebecca Lightcap also notched a personal best of 33.79 in the 50 Free.
The butterfly events showcased strength and consistency from Emerling and Sophia Lightcap, who both posted personal bests—Emerling at 1:17.75 (7th) and Sophia at 1:15.64 (4th).
Brooke Ruzycki capped off her season with three seasonal best times, including the 200 Yard Freestyle (2:30.53, -2.11), 100 Yard Backstroke (1:14.31, -5.28, 3rd place), and 50 Yard Backstroke (37.52).
The Griffins also celebrated a team milestone as the 200 Freestyle Relay qualified for Sectionals, showcasing the depth and competitive spirit of this year’s lineup.
Coach Reynolds shared her pride in the team’s effort, saying, “I’m so proud of these swimmers for giving it their all and stepping up to the competition. Their effort, determination, and teamwork all season long truly paid off.”
With a combination of personal milestones, Sectional qualifications, and top finishes, the Griffins demonstrated their drive and unity from start to finish. Their 3rd-place finish at ECICs marked a strong conclusion to a successful and memorable season for the Springville Girls Varsity Swim Team.

On Friday afternoon Evelyn Berry competed in the sectional tournament, which took place at Miller Tennis Center.
Evelyn’s first round opponent was a familiar foe from Lewport. Evelyn lost in their first ever meeting last season 0-6, 1-6.
This time around was a completely different story as Evelyn dominated the senior from Lewport by winning 6-1, 6-1. It was a major statement and showed the tremendous progress Evelyn has made over the last year.
In the next round Evelyn matched up with the first singles player from Williamsville South. Evelyn lost 4-6, 3-6. It was a great match between two incredible players.
The result concluded Evelyn’s tournament run which was a memorable one! Evelyn finished her season as the best player in D4 and put herself, and school, on the map when it comes to top tennis schools in WNY. Evelyn has a bright future ahead of her!

This week was SES's very first school experience of the year! Students used their Griffin Bucks to enter for a chance to participate in a school experience at The Flower Stand! Students learned about the fall seeding process, types of plants and how to seed in the spring. Not only has Mrs. Ellen Krezman given us this opportunity, but she also supports our cafeteria with all the vegetables we eat! Students can earn a Griffin Buck each day for being respectful, responsible and safe in order to exchange for prizes at the Griffin Store each month. Stay tuned for the next experience!
